I am tired of dealing with the cam sensors, seems to always have a bad connection or severed wire. Can you re map the Motec computer and not use the cam sensors and is this a bad idea? Who re maps these computers? Thanks

Outfront for both of your questions, he can map your motec and will know if you can do it...

Don't think you can do that will need that sensor

The simple answer is no.
To bypass by cam sensor I had to cut two teeth off the stock crank wheel and weld them back on in different positions. That was the only way to use a Megasquirt computer with a Subaru. Since then the Megasquirt people have figured out how to use stock Subaru crank and cam wheels. Next computer will use the stock wheels just because its easier to replace the crank gear when it wears outs.

Seems the wiring harness to the sensors has gotten brittle and has some breaks in it. I guess I will replace the wiring to the computer as I have replaced the cam sensor, the connectors and the first 4" of wiring from the connector at the cam/ crank sensors. That is how I noticed the brittle wiring. Is there a certain type of wire and gauge to use for this? Thanks

The motec m4 can not run this engine without the cam sensor unless you made a custom trigger wheel for the crank---and that's too much work, the EMS Stinger we sell has a mode to run the subaru without any cam sensor at all, using the late model stock subaru crank gear. I would suggest splicing in a short used "sub harness" again, we could sell you one for $10, we also have the pins for that connector, i recommend to ziptie the harness to the dipstick tube so the wire is not boucing up and down.

John, I purchased the connectors and both sensors from you a few weeks ago. I was pretty sure the problem was the wiring at the connectors so I did a clean job of soldering and shrink tubing the replacement connectors in place, but still have had intermittent problems. Today I had the problem again and switched out the crank sensor, immediately fired up when reconnected. Everyone tells me the sensors are solid state and most likely not the problem, I think it was the crank sensor as I switched out the cam sensor last trip, no change, and then crank sensor today with immediate result. Hopefully that is the end of that little issue which has been a long headache over 3 or 4 trips. Subies ROCK !!

how did it act before you changed the senser? mine wont start with alt. pluged in. it will just back fire. unplug it and it fires right up. had the alt. checked out and it is good. the motor will keep running after its started and then the alt. is pluged back in.

That sound weird, did you have to plug it in with one leg up? lol
Serously though, John would know better than us. Sounds like a grounding issue to me.
