I will be providing power to 3 LCD screens and 3 Wii consoles using a RV with an Onan. An extention cord will be used to get power over a determined distance, which shouldn't be over 50'. I will be doing this all over the country. A big concern is lightening. I have been asked by the "technical" staff "if the generator is grounded?"
Of course my first thought is, of course it is grounded. Grounded to the vechicle. But when using an extention cord and additional electronics not in the RV, I thought I would check before I opened my mouth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

They are not asking about a Surge Protector. They are asking you if you are going to drive a ground rod at each location.

Thanks for the input. Is the rod connected to anything? If that is the case, what are the options? I will be on some sort of tarmack.

Usually the ground rod is driven into the ground and connected to the ground of the vehicle. Its not exactly rocket science, but you cant go around pounding in 8ft ground rods willy nilly either.
Suggest consulting a licensed electrician.

They're talking about driving a ground rod 6' (or whatever it is) into the ground and hooking it up to your panel like at home.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks
Hopefully this is not as big of a deal as they are making it out to be and I can get around it.

If it was, you'd see grounding stakes driven into campgrounds everywhere in the US.

The difference here is that there will be electronics away from the RV, not inside or part of the vehicle that is sitting on rubber tires.
