Hey folks,
I'm selling my sand rail, and if I get back into the sport I was considering a Funco, due to a ride I had in one NewYears. I have yet to find ONE bad thing writtten about them in any forums. That alone should tell me it's the way, or, A way to go. At first I had the impression they were just 'toys', but was AMAZED after the ride, and changed my tune! I have seen them out perform some of he bigboys out there. Is there anything negative anyone has heard, or experienced with them?
Just curious.

I have not heard anything negative about them besides looks, and have had a chance to ride in a few and they are awesome duning cars....the best in my opinion. It' also depends on your driving style, these cars like to slide, almost a controlled drift bowl to bowl. Customer support/sataisfaction is probably one of the highest, if not, the highest rated in the industry. I don't think you can go wrong with a Funco. I do not own a Funco, but probably will sometime in the future. Good luck!

I have had four, never a new one, but the George family treats everyone as if you had built a new one with them. Of the seven cars I have had, four have been Funco's and I just keep coming back to them, and dont plan on owning anything else going forward. To me they are just fun to drive, the sliding gets addictive, and when you drive a car that does not handle the same way it almost feels boring.

Well, if looks are the only issue, I can deal with that. That's why I mentioned 'I thought they were just toys', because they look like one! Well, the Hustlers look pretty damn good, though!!
I guess they are like a woman. When you just get started with them, you want a pretty hot one, to make yourself feel good, and to show off to your friends. As we get older, although looks are still great, loyalty and dependablity seem to be more important. Looks go away, and get old as the new younger ones come around. Loyalty and dependability stays around.

You got that right. I see alot of "beautiful" cars sitting at the hill all day, while the "ugly" ones are out in the dunes, seen by no one, with big grins on the drivers faces.

Hey now. Thats not nice! lol
Recently a buddy called these cars the Maserati of the dunes and I said Good analogy. They flat out are awesome if you love to slide and dune. Very little roll and they just stay flat and planted. Lots of weight on the front wheels to keep it down. Personally I have always loved the look but that is preference I guess. The front bars to me are a nice safety factor if something comes at you head on.

I have mixed emotions. I have to confess that I am on the 'not so pretty' bandwagon. As an avid duner, I will admit that the ride I got with Tom Face 2 seasons ago changed my whole outlook on these cars. After an EPO we went on a fun ride with Grant leading. I have been going to Glamis for all of my life, and I will also admit that it was a ride like I have never been on before! In fact, the ride ended short, because Grant blew up the motor. The sliding and handling of these cars is very impressive! The ride quality was superb compared to an older Big5 I had ridden in (like a gen2 or 3 I think). They definately have their own theory and method of doing things, and thats not to say it is bad, just different from the "norm." The new Gen5 is a little easier on the eyes, and I think that it would be fun. I am just not sure if I am ready to give my car up to try a new theory of duning. The Funco theory is they like the Subaru's for low center of gravity (better for sliding), and they do build a lot of V8's. As impressed as I am with the Subaru, I have a hard time giving up the V8 sound and powerband, not to mention the race gas issue. There were pictures of one or two with the front ends broken off, but again, these cars have evolved a lot, and the fact that they build a lot of them only stands to reason that they are more likely to have a bad story out there floating around beacuse there are a lot of their cars out there.

I think the are doing more and more V8's every day. I agree with you on the sound, power band and race gas. Thats why my Funco has a V8. It pulls third gear from idle to rev limiter, so you almost drive it like an automatic and 650 hp with out race gas.

I am going to put mine up for sale in a few months and search for another during the off season. I want to go back to a Subaru powered Funco. The V8 is cool, and convenient without needing race gas, but I really miss the scream of the disco potatoe, the chirp and all the other angry noises it makes when coming on and off boost.

Just picked up my 11th rail (4th Funco) like Walt I also keep coming back. I have had many of the big builders cars and nothing comes close to the Funco IMO. It is the F1 car of the dunes. My previous 2 cars were Big Name long travel rides and it nearly cost me my family's enjoyment of the dunes, from the body roll to the limited visibility, my wife and kids were pretty much done with the rails due to getting sick and feeling uncomfortable with the handeling.
Fast forward to the first ride in our (new to us) Funco and both my daughter and son were completly pumped after i pitched it sideways the first time, neither got sick and both of them couldn't get enough.
Another aspect is the family behind the car. As many times as I have went another route, whenever I come back I am treated great, given top level advise, top level service and delt with like a friend. My next car will be built new and there is zero chance that it will not be a Funco.
PS A lot has been said about "fast guys" running Funco's being the reason for there speed through the dunes. Most "fast guys" have been involved in motorsports and the fact they choose a Funco is an attestant to the cars capabilities. They truly make duning fast easy.

the only thing that i have ever heard BAD about a funco is that the side rails dip down to let you sit inside. People have said that because of these dips the car is weak and your going to die, however, let me tell you why when I have kits I will own a funco.
in 2008 I was involved in a accident in a funco big 5, I was sitting driver side rear passanger when a twisted tin buggy t-boned the big five on my side doing about 45. this was at the drags we where leaving and in the bushes (i hate riding there) the frame held up extremely strong, the tuning D'd the tin crunched but my legs, my arms and I were ok, the funco did bend to the impact. But again it held up in a way I couldnt have imagend, after all, we did A)get t-boned B)rolled 3 times and C) everyone all 4 of us where fine.
get a funco, they are great cars, from great people and even tho they are a mini van looking ride, you can be extremely happy that your rail performs on par or better then cars costing 3 times its cost
