I just dont get it. Ive been going to the ISDRA since 1999 and I have never been hasseled by any LEO what so ever. It is all about attitude. I did get a ticket one time on Gecko Loop for riding an ATC 70 without a helmet. It was $25. That was about 5 years ago.

Yeah, in 5 years that fine has multiplied x10 or more.

Okay, last Halloween the vendors, (I got one from Broken Bikes) were handing out a downloaded form , from ASA, I believe, if you come in contact with LEO you fill it out and forward (this is supposed to be for positive or negative contacts). Let's let the ASA deal with this, it's supposed to have made an impact already, it IDs the more proffesional as well as the less professional LEOs. I believe you can go through the USPS or the ASA web site.
Stay safe

Uhhhhh....it costs exactly ZERO if you wear a helmet as required by the law.

Once again, it still shocks me how many people have issues with LEO's in Glamis. We were out this past weekend (thursday thru saturday) and I never even saw a single LEO, much less getting hassled/abused/threatened by one.

For clarification I have no issue with LEO's and I fly a ASA Checkered Flag. I've got no problem wearing a helmet, and have never been fined at all at Glamis. My only comment was how the fines themselves have mutliplied 10 times. Not a commentary on helmets, or good or bad law enforecement officers. A comment on how expensive fines are, and maybe how that may serve as a small deterrent.

Although... if you have ever gotten a ticket for a red or blue light:

LIGHT PROHIBITION. A person shall not display a flashing or steady burning red or blue warning light on an off-highway motor vehicle except as permitted by Section 21055 or when an extreme hazard exists. 38346 C.V.C.

This is what I found in the LEO guide:

38346 Display of red or blue warning light prohibited (a lighted whip is not a warning light)

http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1234/files/O...%20-%202010.pdf

So.... unless it is a WARNING LIGHT, then it by law can be any color. You cant get a ticket for blinky blue wheel lights or funny color whip lights.

Just got back from Glamis and I received my only ticket in 24 years of going there. Possesion of a glass bottle....in camp about three feet from a motorhome. $75 fine. Yes I know the law states no glass bottles. in previous years I believe they wouldn't have ticketed for that, but now they are going for the "low hanging fruit." so if you prefer your beverage in a glass bottle like I do....be careful. The LEO was rude and acted as if I had just robbed a bank.

Well I have story and some of you won't believe this but here it goes. These situations all happened on a 3 day trip.
1st - no plate on my banshee I am from AZ and we have mc legal plates her. Anyways it must have fell of due to old zip ties cracking. (guess) Leo gave me warning.

2nd - my friend in my camped whiped out duning and broke his flag off. he had strapped to his 6 pack rack cause it wont fit back in the whip holder. Leo gave warning

3rd - My camp was searched two trailer and two trucks. They thought we were smoking weed and brought the dog and everything. We don't smoke pot so we said have look around and we just sat by the fire as another asked us questions. In my trailer they found glass alcohol bottles no beer bottles but a couple grey goose bottles and my gun which was on top of cabinet loaded. Im from AZ and we can legally conceal our weapons, but I guess not in CA. I never even thought about it. But anyways warning for this as well. Same things were found in my buddies truck and trailer, alcohol bottles and a firearm. (warning for him as well). They did treat us at first like were doing something wrong but then the Leo's were very cool and thanked us being good guys but just to watch some of the rules a little closer. No tickets or written warnings at all. Hell when they were all done with there search I even told them they can finish the bottles if they wanted. One of the replied if I wasnt working I would take you up on offer.

Maybe its the way they are treated? I'm just respectful until I feel disrepected. But all these little simple ticket I don't think would be handed out if we all respected the job they are doing.

Also if you don't want BLM and Leo's go to buttercup. They are very few and it's mainly family orientated. But ya the sand cars won't like the small stuff.

Was there last weekend as well and was prepared for the worse. Only LEO I saw came to camp for fireworks. I had already warned them about lighting them as you can see them from so far away and after an hour or so you would expect someone to show up. Well neighbor came over asked us to stop. Next thing you know next camp over starts lighting them. While Leo is in our camp looking around asking everyone who did it neighbor who is friends of friends goes to light a mortar right in front of them not even paying attention. The time they spent searching and walking the distance back the there truck was over an hour end result $125 ticket. Common sense could of easily avoided this. By wednesday expect to see alot more of them.

Let me be clear....the officer (BLM Ranger) was rude from the jump. I simply replied yes sir and no sir when asked questions. His intent from the beginning when he came into our camp on a fishing expedition was to write a ticket. No warnings, no discusions....he saw the bottle and stated do you know those are illegal dont you, and I replied yes and he stated you're getting a ticket We had a very large camp with several families, multiple vehicles. They were glanicing at everyones passes etc. looking for something to write up.

By the way...my intention is not to whine about the ticket....I WAS in possession of a glass bottle....guilty, I'll pay the ticket. just warning my fellow duners to beware of glass bottles, as they appear to be a target for tickets these days....I'll take cans or plastic from now on beer.gif
LaDSM
$125 is a cheap ticket for fireworks, a couple years back it cost me $400 to have my awning cover fabric replaced during a Halloween trip when another camps Fiery remanants of a mortar came raining down on my toy hauler, We were running around with broomsticks getting the embers off the fabric to keep it from melting thru and a possible fire.
Hoverman
you do know that while camping your trailer is your home and they would need a search warrant to search it right?

....unless given consent which is sounds like these guys did. However, same principle applies to firearms as well. You can home them inside the motorhome so they couldn't arrested them or even wrote a citation for that. Not sure what the isue was with the glass and/or alcohol in the motorhome unless they were underage.

So you consented to a seach and they tossed your camp,
When they didnt find anything they could bust you for? They thanked you for being good guys?
Same as if you are out and about. If they have no legitimite probable cause to search? You dont have to consent to a search.

And btw your camp is your temporary domicile. to which you are entitled to be able to defend if needed.
You can have a firearm within.
Just dont be an idiot and brandish it outside.

I just read this entire thread and my 'feelings / reaction' changed 4 times while reading.

Not being a California resident, i IMPLORE residents of Cali. Do your civic duty and VOTE. If you aren't informed, and / or don't vote, shame on you.

Growing up i was ticketed for stupid stuff all the time, and it's funny that as I've gotten older (Knock on wood) i haven't been ticketed in years. Behavior induces a reaction?

You aren't giving up ANY of your manhood by being respectful to LEO's, is your buddy 'cool' because he mouthed off to an LEO or got 'tough' ?. Yes they are pompous, ignorant, arrogant, and usually rude. Education bodes well, they have a difficult and dangerous job. My cooperation with them is for my OWN protection, and that of my family and friends, it's not a pacific ism to the LEO.

If you have been mistreated, don't use threats, don't attempt to fight ignorance with arrogance it just doesn't work. Use the system, the ASA is here to help, use the power of the pen, maybe even media? I'd love to get with someone like the '3 on your side' crew (Arizona news group for consumer protection). Maybe they would enjoy running a piece on mistreatment?

California over regulates. Why? Because we allow it.

Robbie's comments were spot on. It's a money issue, and LEO's know where their paycheck is coming from.

Get involved, don't be a lemming, it works!

after spending the time to read all of the posts it leaves me wondering... if you see law enforcement heading your way, what basis (probable cause) would they have to enter the camp and search the camp or vehicles if everyone just went into a motor home?

I found an answer to my own question...

http://www.4lawnotes.com/showthread.php?t=1150

but this does not really answer the question... if law enforcement does not observe any illegal activity do they still have the right to search w/o a warrant?

and yet another point of view...

I just wish the BLM would use some common sense. They came by our camp (PAD 4) at 8 oclock at night telling us we needed to move our rigs at least 10 ft off the white line. We DO NOT park even close to the line probably at least 6-7 feet off. But this was not good enough. At 8 oclock at night when all ours kids were going to bed and the adults had been drinking.....they pick that time to come through with an order to move our rigs...I understand the 10 ft rule (even though I had never personally seen it enforced). But how about letting everyone know the problem and requesting they be moved by noon the following day...The result was 40 people moving their camps, a log jam on the highway and for what 3 ft. I am involved in law enforcement and Im pretty embarrassed by the way I've seen the Rangers treat people ....

NOTE for Rangers..Your not in south central...Calm down..This is a family destination..your orders will be complied with by 99 percent of all the campers..Treat them accordingly. Lose your "Us against them mentality!"

All this being said..I have had great luck with the Imperial County Sheriffs Department Deputies..They have been professional and understanding with every contact Ive witnessed.

The problem I found is the vehicle code does not define "warning light." While a lighted whip MAY not be a warning light..I bet an officer would believe that a single bulb on top of a whip IS a warning light...the difference between the whip itself and the bulb on top...
GREAT FIND BTW!!!!

knowing I was already goingto be nailed I played cool with the officer, we engaged in a conversation and he explained that the BLM has full authority and he recommended that I read all the laws and regulations of Use of Public Lands. It is easier to read and understand a chemistry book and I can't even spell it. I forgot to mention, my tree lighting ceramony gave them full reign to to write a ticket to onther freind in our camp holding a Glass bottle beer $125, three more for no current reg papers on their quads even though they had papers in the trailer, still it wasnt on the quads. I now, along with having the green stickers present, I keep a copy of all reg in a ziplock taped under each seat. And lastly, they gave a ticket to another friend for littering because the trash can he had by his trailer had fallen over and there where a couple of items that fell out. All in All they left our came issuing a total of 6 tickets for over $500. yeap, dont F with the BLM they will pull the book out on you and you wont win. We want to play there, its on their terms.

I had my race truck impounded on halloween for not having a copy of my reg papers in the truck.. The *** that pulled me over was hoping that I was drinking and driving as others in our group were drinking at the hill but as I told him like 10 times I do not EVER drink and drive. So after making my girlfriend and I sit on sand highway for over an hour as they gave another guy on a quad a dui the officer then lied to me and told me he just want me to follow him out to the road so he could write me a ticket for "my green sticker not being placed correctly" I have my green sticker in the rear of the cage on the left side just as the directions say!!! when we got out by the beach store he informed me he was going to impound my truck for not have the reg in the truck with me. I even had a friend meet us out there with the reg he brought form my motorhome and mr BLM sand rail *** still inpounded it!!!

Can someone cite me what code deems you must have registration paperwork for off road vehicles? What ever happened to cops calling it in?

Used to be a green sticker was all you needed.
raptorflash
They can't legally tow your vehicle for just no registration card, not even the blm. If you have the green sticker on it and the VIN number is readily visible it can't be towed. Was your green sticker out of date? When they gave you a copy of the storage form and your ticket what did they the storage authority was? If all your stuff is up to date and legit, call the agency and request a tow hearing, and get them to eat the storage fees and dismiss the ticket
