Since a kid ---Wow---That was probably 150 years ago tongue.gif tongue.gif ---Most of Pioneertown is privately owned and very anti ORV---Pioneertown Road used to end in a dirt road that went all the way to Big Bear---But a land conservatory bought it all out and the last time I went there they had it gated off and couldn't use the road----If you go right on the tar road and then your last left it will take you to dirt road into Pipes Canyon----7 miles in a dirt road, (#22 I think), takes you all the way to Big Bear---No ORV---Have to be licenced vehicle---If you go straight and not to Big Bear it will take you all the way to Johnson Valley through Rattlesnake Canyon.

So to answer your question---No on Pioneertown---But yes on Pipes Canyon---So if you have a Jeep there is some beatiful and fun riding up there---I don't have a Jeep but sure wish I did----You can make it easily to Rattlesnake Canyon in a 2wd but 1/2 way down the sand is too deep and you would definitely get stuck---I live here, (Yucca Valley)---So if you ever want to do it give me a pm and I'll go with ya.

I think even back then there were some Street legal only roads but it was easier to register an XR as an XL. WE had a xr350r, an xr600r, and an xr200r all with street plates. We would go with groups of at least 10 bikes and every one had plates...same dealer ph34r.gif

Better in the warmer weather though---Here's a good idea---Go to Johnson Valley---Camp in the middle opening---Messner Mine Road, (or something like that), down on the dry lake bed---Get up early for long day ride---Go out to 247 cross it and head to the mountains---You'll find Rattlesnake Canyon which brings you to the back door of Pipes Canyon---And it's all beautiful up in there and lots of fun places to explore.

Good riding.
It's Bessemer Mine Road, BTW.

One bad thing about the lake bed: If the winds whip up (and they do often in the high desert), you have nothing to protect you from it. There are lots of areas that have some sort of wind protection.

Pioneer Town is a great place to visit, lots of cool history there. But not really OHV friendly.
