Has anyone changed the tie downs in their toy hauler? I pulled 1 side up the first time out with my new sand rail. They are a "triangle" style tie down with a strap over it to secure it to the floor. I used 6 tiedowns on my rail and one pulled up. I have 2 big straps from 4 Wheel Parts, and some 400 lb straps also. I'm not real happy with these tie downs. Anybody have some ideas, or done some different tie downs? Where did ya get them if so?

Thanks, BBTank

I installed 5 of these:

Got them at my local hardware store... and I've seen them at trailer stores too.

I placed a plate of stainless under each one (on the underside of the toyhauler), so the load is spread across the plywood flooring. 2 at the rear and 3 up front... one in the front-center to attach a winch cable to for pulling the rail in backwards.

Since I'm in the aviation industry, I was thinking of installing 3 tracks, similar to commercial seat tracks, in my hauler. Each side and down the middle would be locations.
I like your idea too, it would seem to be fairly easy, with 2 people to do it.

Thanks,
Tank

They sell a backing plate for these also. When I've fixed these before the builder of the trailer "tried" to hit the metel of the cross bars, but missed. If you can bolt them to the metal frame your safer.

I've been looking online and found a company right here in Tucson that sells exactly what I'm looking for, not a bad price. You get 3 8' tracks with movable hooks, for $289, I think. That's gonna work pretty good, I think. Still looking and thinking about, anyone??

Here's a link to a few of the different tracks and studs you can find. http://www.uscargocontrol.com/airlinestrapshardware-c-8.html

I bought a set of those tracks at an off road place, maybe 4wheel parts over 10 years ago. They worked great in the truck I put them in. I liked that you can move the hook point right were you need it.

Would the tracks be a trip hazard for occupants after the toys are removed, or would you recess them?

I would think I would try to recess them. Hey, if you trip, you've had too much to drink to be inside and should be out by the fire, right? I ussually have all the guest's alcohol that I'm willing to share, outside anyways. I'm a picky ba$tard about my hauler!!!!

Well, there's always that. I'm thinking from the mind of a father of a 15 month old. Little bugger trips over EVERYTHING, so I guess one more thing won't matter and might hopefully teach him the lesson of looking where you step... icon_biggrin.gif

I went to Cargo Gear, here in Tucson (nice website) and bought the tiedowns in post #2. I bought 7 of them. My plan is 3 across the very back, 2 in the fron of the car area, and 2 somewhere convenient for the BBQ grill, big cooler, and a few light things to tie down. The guy at the warehouse gave me a couple of short clip in tracks for anything that I needed them for. Very nice folks. If you need something for tie downs, cargo straps, these folks sure seem nice and helpful.
