Well, my Raptor made the sound of death when I hit the button last week. I took off the starter gear cover, but I can't tell by looking at the gears how to change out the one- way gear. Where is the gear at?

Has anyone had to fix theirs? Do you have to split the cases to get to the bendix? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey jef, mine has been makin a loud scrape like sound. At times it dosen't even turn the motor, it just spins. I'm takin mine in Monday. I'm sure they will replace them for free. Check it out before you do anything. This is the problem with the 1st year prod. quads. user posted image

OK,

Now I am getting the same starter gear problem.
I looked on the web and found that a LOT of Raptor owners are having the same problem.

Is there an AFTERMARKET fix that is better than Yamaha?

Harvee and Jefe, did your fix work? Is it still working?

Your one way bearing is going or gone. Not to hard to fix. There is also a 52 tooth gear that is probablyy a little scored up that you might need to replace.

Things needed

starter gasket
case gasket
2 Orings
oneway bearing
the 52 tooth gear

around 230$ is what I paid. You will need a flywheel puller and away you go..

OK, I am willing to spend the $230, but is it any better than the original? Will it be breaking in a few months?
Am I doing something in the way I start it that is killing it prematurely?

They say start in Neutral no reverse usage and it will last longer. But with the problem being common they will upgrade the parts with out telling us. There is a company that just came out with a new oneway bearing i will look for it.

You will need #1 and #8 plus the Orings and seals

Good luck

If you are hard core take the new gear part #1 and have it case hardened I hear that helps alot.

Next get a set of JD performance A arms

No reverse usage? Is there really a connection with the reverse and the starter clutch?
I wonder if anyone will make a modification that will actually solve the problem.

The 52 tooth gear is connected to the flywheel that is what I was told just passing on the info. Personally if I need reverse I will still use it.
