Does anyone own one of these? What do you guys think of these for desert riding? Pro's and cons' ? How reliable? Any weak points on them?

Thanks

spend the money for the 2010 800 model. It has a restrictor plate that give you +6 hp by removing two screws. It also has better suspension than the older strut models

Whats wrong with the struts? Can you replace them with coilovers? I didnt look at the mounts or anything. Im new to SXS. Is there any other issues with the Ranger Crew?

Thanks for the info.
LaDSM
Taylor Motorsports has a great long travel kit.

The lower balljoint is the weak link.

I had to replace mine once a year until I went long travel. I have $2000 into my motor and a stock 800 will still beat it.
DIRT ROADER
If I got one, I plan on using it for the family wagon. Just cruising around the desert on some trail rides. Do you think the ball joints would be able to handle that kind of stuff? Will coilovers bolt into the strut mounts? Or would you have to fab up a mount or something? What are your thoughts on the 2008 700 crew's?

Thanks for the info.

yeah...if youre not beating on it through the whoops and constantly hucking it, you'll be good....just don't expect that crew to be able to fly, and youll be ok

i would upgrade the seatbelts to 4 or 5 point harnesses too

I would go with the new RZR S-4, the new 4 seater is pretty nice. saw it at house of Motor Cycles today. Althought their sticker OTD was at 18K. Curious to see the reviews on it.

If you remove that plate, is there any other tuning that needs to be done because the plate is now removed?

Thanks

$14999 at my local dealer, plus the standard tax, lic, prep, etc. I doubt it would add up to 18K here
hollidaysranch
Yeah, I though 18 was a little high too. I think the MSRP was about 14.9 too. I'm sure they'll be marked up quite a bit for a while.

I think if you have a big family it would be great.

I have an 09 Crew. It's 12' long bumper to bumper so you have to pick your lines to keep the tires on the ground. It works hard in the soft stuff with stock tires/pressure. I'm sure sand tires will help but it's still a heavy machine at around 1500 lbs. I've had ours up to 43 mph on the GPS with the whole fam damily riding. Ours is barely broke-in so I can't speak much for reliability. My biggest gripe is having to stop to shift between high/low range.

Thanks for the info. I will probably end up doing mostly desert rides.

restrictor plate..?? What is this, Nascar... smile.gif

WHY would they do that? improve mid throttle response or maybe injectors are at peak duty cycle and can't flow more fuel? Could they be that aftermarket friendly?
DIRT ROADER
Do you guys think that there will be any issues with putting a 2+5 offset rim on all for corners of the crew? What I mean , will it stress the spindle or strut and start causing issues or breaking stuff? The crew is not going to be jumped or anything like that. Good idea? Bad idea?
MossLager
You'll be fine
richard cheese
i would personally wait to see the ride reviews of that rzr crew. if they are usng the same engine config as they do in the regular, then for sure it would be a dog, and it would take some $$$$$ to get it up to duning potential, like its smaller brethren

because they are effing polaris...you should have seen the restrictor plate on my exhaust manifold...a whole inch narrower than the exit hole on the exhaust!!

imo, Polaris has done some stupid things with their side by sides

on my ranger, it uses the same powerplant as the sportsman 700, which weighs half as much as my ranger, BUT they retard the engine something fierce

a 700 sportsmand ECU and cam is an effin UPGRADE

Nobody makes a 2+5 rim for the polaris, as far as the Spindle bending, no way, the struts are huge. Your only weak point is the lower ball joint in the strut but EPI does make a Heavy duty set so that can be taken care of.

ITP and others make a +1 offset wheel over stock and you can have DOuglas wheels made custom but that is Cash. Best bet is a 1" spacer on an ITP wheel or 1.5" spacer on the stock wheel. Any wider and the steering Geometry goes away and they push bad in the turns. Walker Evans struts and coils and rear coilovers were a great upgrade but eventually I put Long Travel on and thats the ulitmate.

FOr the Sand I run a 3+5 front and a 4+6 rear and its fine in the sand but the front is too much for the hard pack in tight turns.

I just went looking for the pics I had of the Walkers but they are gone off Photobucket

By any chance, do you guys know what the bolt pattern measurments for rims on the Polaris Crew ?

Thanks

I am getting ready for some more motor mods to mine and I will be selling my current stuff, if you have any interest in doing any mods.

I am replacing the aftermarket cam with a huge cam. THe current Webcam I have can be ran with no other mods to the heads or valve springs.

I am replacing the full header exhaust (1 season Old) with a hand made header and gibson muffler.

I am replacing the aftermarket Clutch weights and springs.

Bumping the Compression 1 point and advancing the timing 3.5* is cheap and easy

What kind of fasterner is holding the restrictor plate in, it is not a torx bit??? How did you remove yours?
BansheeBruce
Has anyone had any issues after removing the restrictor plate? Does it void the warranty?
