Just refill in Brawley...actually....I think its lame not to fill up in brawley. Why the heck would someone tow water for hundreds of mile when its available for free 30 mins from G?

If I fill up on the road it can take me 20 min to do if nobody is allready filling up. I can do it at home while I load my trailer. The wieght of water is about equal to a couple of quads in my trailer and I don't think it's makes sitting somplace for 20 min as I fill up.

Yep. Ours only holds 50 gallons, so the 400lbs is fairly inconsequential. Never noticed a difference after I dumped water...

Same here i fill up at home i dont care to try and find a place to fill up and wait in line while others think they have all night while filling water and doing shopping at the same time while their rig is still parked at the water fill.

Besides many make a big deal about the extra water weight but will not hesitate to drive a few friends out if needed who probably weigh more than a full water tank 1cheff.gif

I agree, I fill up at home as well with "clean" water. I never can understand why people fill up at the dumps where the sign says "not potable water" or "danger". I would not want to chance it. More importantly it is just simply rude to make people wait while you fill up with crap water.
It happened to me this weekend. I had to wait in line at the dumper while someone filled up for 20 minutes....
I have 220 gallons and I always fill up at home. I just try to use it all out there so I dont carry it twice:)

35550. (a) The gross weight imposed upon the highway by the wheels
on any one axle of a vehicle shall not exceed 20,000 pounds and the
gross weight upon any one wheel, or wheels, supporting one end of an
axle, and resting upon the roadway, shall not exceed 10,500 pounds.
(b) The gross weight limit provided for weight bearing upon any
one wheel, or wheels, supporting one end of an axle shall not apply
to vehicles the loads of which consist of livestock.
© The maximum wheel load is the lesser of the following:
(1) The load limit established by the tire manufacturer, as molded
on at least one sidewall of the tire.

(2) A load of 620 pounds per lateral inch of tire width, as
determined by the manufacturer's rated tire width as molded on at
least one sidewall of the tire for all axles except the steering
axle, in which case paragraph (1) applies.

It never ceases to amaze me how many "truckers" we have on this site and yet so few of them actually know the laws that pertain to them...

People get so upset and start name calling about how the LEO's are making stuff up, yet it almost always seems to be a viable law.

They dont just make stuff up.

I would like to know what code violation they are citing for? My understanding is that the weight laws apply to commercial vehicles not private coaches. Now out of a safety concern, I could understand them checking the GCVWR of the rig and the weight rating on the tires to see if you are overloaded but could they cite you for it? Or can they just make you park it until you can get the weight in line with the ratings. I would love to here the opinion of one of our law enforcement board members.

A pick up truck IS a commercial vehicle and weight laws do apply..

tom, im just trying to clarify here. the above quote means they go by the ratings of the tires, as opposed to the gawr for the rear axle? say the actual measured weight on the rear axle is over the gawr on the door sticker but still under the combined load rating of the rear tires?

Would like you to expand on the above. Does the 29K include the tow vehicle? What is your tow vehicle?
