I'm planing on going to Castaic lake for 3-4 days next week and do some fishing but never been there so I have a couple questions . How far is the water from the camp sites, is the shore fishing any good, is the no alcohol strictly enforced

if i can remeber that this is the same lake that i went to when i was a kid. then the shore fishing was awsome for trout. believe it or not they where up high using a clear bobber and a foot of a leader. fill the bobber half full and bait the hook with power bait. toss it out and good luck. also it was walking distance from where we were camping at in a moho. good luck i hope it is the same lake i am thinking of.

My experience is only on the lower lagoon at Castaic! First foremost liquor/ alcohol law is loosely enforced just be an adult about it, don't have a ragin party! And the deputies frequent patrol that area since they have a division within 1/4 from Castaic lake. On to the fun part, for the lower lake, I recommend fishing by the buoy lines adjacent the to street. Or totally across the lake, but stay away from the peer! Use nightcrawlers and light weight line 2 lbs is what i use.

here I have is the best picture I have of what spot I'm talking about. It is before the main entrance to the lower lagoon, so just pay at the main place and drive back. To illustrate, make a left turn before crossing the bridge.
or screw it go mammoth!

How do you like fishing out of the float tube? I have been thinking of getting one or the small one seat pontoon boats.

No launch fees although you still need to pay for entrance and being on the water thus 'tubing.' Thinking about float tubing, I would high consider it but do you have any friends that float tube fish? If not it can be boring and just rather stay on the shore etc. But if you got buddies who float tube fish go for it!
As for single seater pontoons, forget about it, first you need to steer the pontoon, but once you get to the spot how are you going to fish when you start drifting? Anchor? Give me a break go with a tube easy to maneuver and fish with. Kick with feet, fish with hands that is how you do it. Another you may get a tandem kayak, tell your buddy or significant other to paddle while you fish!
