Yeah, another tire topic. I know what I want, i just need to know something first.

Ok, with that out of the way. So the Transmaster tires that weekend warrior put on my trailer have been flawless, until this past weekend. I ran something over, evidenced by the hole in the tire tread, and blew 1 tire and put a screw in another on my way to glamis this past weekend. BTW, tires will be 3 years old this June. Fortunately I got pulled over quickly, and the cap stayed put and did zero damage to my trailer.

It has 235/80r16 tires on it now. I want to switch to the Michelin XPS ribs or equivalent, but I am curious about the sizes. I re-read the pinned thread from rivermobster in the toy haulers forum, and it seems everyone is going to the 225/75R16 tire. What the difference in size between a 235/80r16 and a 225/75r16 tire? I am looking for at least 3k in sidewall rating, and I want the best there is.

My trailer is an 08 Weekend Warrior triple axle CR3905 fifth wheel trailer. Axles are "flipped" to get maximum clearance from the overhang to the bed rails of my F-350.

Thanks again...

the 235 are just a little bigger. If that's what fits, I would go with the bigger one. the reason 225's are used is that if you dont have flipped axles these fit inside and dont rub. 235's will have better flotation in the sand.

225/75/16 will be 29.4" dia. and 8.8" wide.

235/80/16 will be 30.7" dia. and 9.2" wide.

Either tire size is available in a range of load ratings.

get the biggest size possible. previous owner of my trailer got tired of the OE 235/80R16 marathons coming apart so he switched all 6 tires over to bridgestone truck tires from chevy HD trucks. they are 245/75R16 load E and have been flawless! they are a bit shorter, but much wider than the OEs and seem to handle the trailer well
