Trying to get this bike running but at half throttle it falls flat. The bike has fresh gas, opened up the carb cleaned out the main jet and its still running the same. Could it be the reeds? Need schooled on 2 Strokes. What should I be looking at?
Thanks J.

We got the bike awhile ago, just trying to get it running now. Heres what we have done new plug, fresh gas, new air filter, cleaned out the bowl and main jet ( didn't soak the how carb ). The bike idles great and sounds good untill half - then it just boggs out..
Thanks J.

I would start with pressure test on the motor to make sure there's no leaks thru seals, gaskets, intakes. I would definately dissasemble entire carb and dip it. The Chem-Dip bucket only costs 20 bux @ Autozone. There's alot of fuel/air pasages * might be gummed up. Check the reeds out, make sure they're nice an snappy, not warped, brittle or even broken. How's that plug checking out?

you could inspect the reeds but pretty sure the gasket will fall apart so you will need new ones.
if not cracked flip reeds over. maybe spray started fluid around intake boot and look for air leak.

I'll get the Chem-Dip bucket and get the carb all cleaned up, for the pressure test - thats is a compresion check right? The compresion tester I have is a old one you hold it against the head. It is read at 80 give or take. The spark plug was kind of oily and dark in the inner part (?). I'll recheck the plug gap, but I don't have any way of doing a leak down. Would sparying carb cleaner around head, reeds tell me anything?
Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like a rich or air leak symtom.
Compression test is for top end/cylinder/combustion chamber.
What you need is a leakdown test. Making a single cylinder tester is very easy. Get a freezer plug for the exhaust port. PVC pipe & cap glued together, drill hole on cap & insert a wheel valve stem.. Use PVC glue to seal it all. Remove carb from intake, install your pvc rig. Pump bout 5 lbs with air pump. Hold digital guage on valve. Only cost ya a few bux to make.
Post a thread on my forum E2S if you need more help. Maybe good tech info will chime in.

^^ Can definately check motor pressure.
Tearing my motor out sometime this week, running a test before I tear it appart. I'll try to post pics. Can spray soapy water around all bottom/top end gaskets/seals [would check around intake very close!]. Soapy bubbles will identify the leak if one exists.

The carb is all cleaned up now, and all passages have been blown through. Looking in the manual the stock carb is a Mikuni VM15, the one I pulled of the bike looks way different, float is a different style, Pilot screw and Throttle stop screw are on the oposite sides... It is a Minuki carb and the only markings I can find are ( 4L400 ) and ( L2X2 ). Looked around the net and haven't been able to find any info on the carb, any ideas??
Thanks J.

Hmmm.. I'd like to do some carb comparisons and see where that leads.
Can you measure back of the carb where it goes into intake/manifold?
What carb/size does is this bike supposed to come with?
I'm going to PM an old friends, his little bro had one of these.
