Went to the local shop (Cottonwood, AZ) and was talking to the owner about my son's (age 7, almost 8 ) next bike. Was looking into the KTM's but he said alot of people are getting into these cobra motorcycles and they're winning big. I had never even heard about them so looking for any input. My son is going to start racing so we'll go with the CRF50 for right now but don't want to blow it on the next bike and not get the best fit. Prices seem competitive with the KTM's (CX50 MSRP being $3448). At first I figured they were a Chinese knock off but the seem pretty big in racing.

my neighbors kid has 3 ktm's and 2 cobras. races every weekend, only rides the cobras. seems to love them. he said they wont work in the sand, but for racing he loves them. they do have the china look to them, but as far as I know they are really nice bikes!

Nephew races. He started on a 50cc Polini and has moved on to the 65cc Cobra. Most the kids he races against have either a Polini or Cobra.

I had never heard of them either. I assumed they were a chinese/korean import but look what I found on their website:

Are Cobras really 'Made in America'?

Yes. Our export documents show that over 80% of the content of Cobra motorcycles and ATVs comes from the USA. For reference, this is more than any car or truck produced in U.S. factories. Cobra makes its own engines and chassis in-house, and we have full manufacturing capabilities for many of our components. Of course, there are some parts like carburetors and suspension that are purchased elsewhere, however, we always seek out the best companies in the world to work with for items that cannot be found locally.

It appears they are built in Canada with the majority of parts sourced from the USA.

I am a trainer for my company and one of my attendee's has a 7 year old who races on these bikes... He said the suspension is top notch with adjustable bypass and all.... The National Champion for that age group rides the Cobra.... Here is the Youtube video....

My buddies kid raced cobra's for quite a few years (Borona).. EXPENSIVE as hell for parts and work... He rides KTM now and is always first in his age group..

Cobra is it for race bikes in the US. Made in the US and fast as hell. Look at all the races at Loretta Lynn's and they dominate. Good bike just expensive but worth the money. They win. Google cobra. You'll see. Good luck.

They are Fast as Hell

They win no joke, worth it for the little racer.

They are great little bikes but require a ton a maintenance.
