Guys, im looking to purchase a 99 KX 250 where the owner allegedly has 2 trips on a "Hot Rods" crank, new piston and a replated cylinder. The price is reasonable. Any suggestions on what to look for (other than the spark plug), or problem areas with this particular bike. Any suggestions or inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Me & 2 buddys that ride together all ride 99 kx250's. We decided to do this so we can share parts. Plus
it's fun thinking... HMM he did it why can't I, it is the same bike. All 3 of us paid 1100. for our bikes.
Steve's is like new but had no mods 100% stock. Bobby's is a little worn buy came with a new pro-circuit pipe
and a new top end kit. Seller had receipts...Mine is the least aesthetically pleasing, (beat to hell)
plastics were not cracked but really beat up. Let just say that there isn't a spot on the frame or plastics that
isnt scratches or chipped, but came with the most mods. New seat, WER steering stabilizer, FMF pipe - Pro circuit bars, swing arm linkage, tripple tree and bar mounts, Pro taper bars. Steel 13 front and 50 rear sprocket with O ring chain a must for desert riding (i cant recall what kind, but it was a good set.) The owner had receipts a lower end rebuild and top end resleeve. Oh and a new back tire. All bikes have clean titles (a must!)
Just wanted to paint a picture of what the bike is worth.

I only know of 1 weak link on the 99-02 kx is the front fork seals leaking. In 03 they changed from 43mm to 46 to fix the problem.
It costs $125 at a shop if you pull the forks off the bike.
The seals themselves only cost 10. and I made my own seal installation tool using some 2" schedule40 pvc and a torch. They recommend
using 5 or 10 weight fork oil. We've been using auto tranny fluid which is 7 weight, it's cheap and works perfect.

I have an 01 KX250 that I paid $1200.00 for over a year ago, and it's been great, very reliable, and pleny of power at the dunes. I recently bought a 4 stroke bike too, but I still have the KX, just runs too nice to get rid of.

Check the rear suspension linkage very carefully, make sure there is no play in any of the bearings including the swingarm.
