Shovel Boy
ahhhhhh....do i nec to do anything else to go along with that...like jet it differently?
BeachHead
shovelboy..

you can rip just fine with a very small investment. here's the basic recipie:

1. remove baffle/sparky from pipe (note the rangers may not look to favorably on this), cost is $0
2. remove air box lid, cost is $0
3. install yz450f bike needle on 3rd or 4th clip (aka NCVQ needle) cost is about $13 at the yamaha shop (yamaha p/n: 5TA-14916-V1-00 NEEDLE (#NCVQ)
4. install 45 pilot jet (stock is 42), cost is about $6 (yamaha p/n: 4MX-14948-05-00 JET, SLOW (#45)
5. install 165 main jet or so, cost is about $6 (yamaha p/n: 4MX-14943-40-00 JET, MAIN (#165)
6. set idle mixture screw to 2-2 1/2 turns out, cost is $0

ride and enjoy. you won't be the fastest, but you should notice a definite change in power. There might be some adjusment on main jet size, clip location, and idle mixture screw, but you should be close.

then when you get some spare change, call rocky mountain atv and get the yoshi slip on delivered for $299 and their TEC insert for about $30 more. This may not be the absolute "best", but it gets you spark arrestor and sound (I've been told this anyway..no tests to prove it) legal..don't want to have to mess with the revenuers when you are out having fun right?
rivermobster
damm good info right there!
SHOCKER
Hey rivermobster, do you got pics of your nerfs?

The thing runs soooooo good stock shovel, i could have spend 600 beans elsewhere rather than buying the GYT-R pipe right off the hop.

BeachHead
yes..that's the spark arrestor too. That's why I would recommend the yoshi pipe, because you become "legal" again. There are other ways to go for sure, but if you follow this path, you'll have plenty of time to figure out exactly where you want to go, with only a small amount invested.

BTW, although I wish I was smart enough to have figured all of this out on my own, I've gathered this from various sources over the internet, who are obviously much smarter than I..icon_smile.gif But I have done this to three different yfz's now, with very positive results..icon_smile.gif

takes about 10-15 minutes to open a YFZ up....then it rips
YFZ4KT
Hey SHovel, BeachHead has done this with my YFZ, and I am still running without the Baffle/sparky. It hauls butt (mine) for sure. It had been jetted and the lid, K&N filter outerwear, the Yoshi slip on will be next after this weekend trip so it will be legal again. THanks BeachHead for allthe help.....
Shovel Boy
thanks all !! ! ! i learned how to jet tonight!!! w00 w00!

All the free mods and you'll be very happy. With the cam mod, baffle out and no air lid and rejetting it's a whole nother machine.

It'll be a lot more okay than a Raptor with no mods. icon_wink.gif
