He was delivered Friday and is finally home. So far him and the cats all revere each other. Ky (my smallest bad (_|_)) is the only one that really confronts him. Funny too as he is the smallest cat I have. Trejo just backs off and walks around the cats. Even though he is crate trained we all have been sleeping in bed together. Trejo is so so sweet. I LOVE him!! icon_biggrin.gif He is till adjusting to his surroundings but seems very content. He sleeps on "MY" favorite spot on the couch laughing.gif

The adoption took about a month. I adopted him from Villalobos in LA. They filmed his adoption process for their 2nd season of Pit Bulls and Parolees airing on Animal Planet. Trejo has an amazing story.

Here is his story on how he was found as well as a video link about his rehabilitation process at Villalobos at the end of the story.

I would never let any dog that is new to anyone get anywhere near your head! My son, at about 6 or 7, was near a rottie, my sisters dog, and the damn dog nearly killed him. clamped on to him 1/2 inch from his carotid artery on his neck. 125+ stitches on the face and neck. Good luck.

Cacti: First off Congrats on the adoption! I think adopting a dog is super kind and he will be extremely loyal. One of my dobermans I rescued. He was returned multiple times due to aggressive behavior and he has been the best dog ever (8 years so far). I will say though when I first adopted him he tested me for who was boss so just be careful.

So "everyone" lets say great job resceuing the guy but please be careful until you really learn his personality..

Good job! Great looking dog. Rescued and adopted dogs seem to love their owners just a little more.

The Skeptics above probably have $2000 rat dogs that will end up biting the hand that feeds them.

Congrats! Sounds like he'll be a great addition to your family.
Our neighbor has a pit bull, along with some freakish looking expensive cat AND two Yorkies. All the small
animals are still alive laughing.gif and peacefully co-exist.
The pit comes over to our front yard regulary when I am out to play or get some affection.

Thank you for the "positive" remarks....

Going great. What a little lover this guy is I tell you. Not one sign of aggression but I already knew that. Poor guy is missing teeth from the previous owner 1 1/2 yrs ago. Can't believe anyone would strike a dog or any animal icon_sad.gif

I have him on a good diet and we have started walking and exercising...He loves the fresh air and exploring around the field behind our house. He even poops where I want him to in the back yard. I taught him to go in this one area so I don't have to go all around the back yard looking for little bombs..lol

Congrats on your rescue. I've been watching the pitbulls and parolees show and they sure do great things for these dogs, and this breed needs all the help it can get.

Here is my first dog, her name was Baby and I had her for 13 wonderfull years.

After Baby passed I was without a dog for about 10 months and I just had to get another one.
Along came Boo Boo, I found her at a online rescue, she is about 3 years old now.

It's a shame the breed gets such a bad rap.

Awesome Cacti! oto.gif

Rescuing is the 1000000% way to go, ESPECIALLY from one that really takes the time to work with the animals prior to re-homing them. hug.gif

Pits are wonderful dogs with a bad rap. We had a pit and Rottie growing up, the pit was my stepdads when he and my mom met, and my mom had her Australian shepard mix. Well they did have to be separated because my moms dog would attack the pit everytime he got a chance. Not the pits fault. And the pit was very loyal, loving, and wonderful as long as that other little effer wasn't attacking him. I would not hesitate to get a pit, especially one that has had it rough. Like Bansh said, the rescues seem to give a little bit more to their humans. Both of my dogs are rescues and I wub.gif them.

Congrats lady, post some more pics! oto.gif

Found out his exact breed. He is an American Sfaffordshire Terrier, Fawn Brendle...The rescue did test his temperament. I'm pretty educated on the breed. I know what to do and how to handle him. He is good and responds to commands very well. One of the most intelligent and loyal dogs. And I do agree he seems to love and appreciate love a little bit more. The poor guy is missing teeth icon_sad.gif EFF ABUSERS!!! His recall is pretty good too. He follows me EVERYWHERE I go...and I mean everywhere ph34r.gif laughing.gif

WOW

Pretty risky !

It might be a great dog... the key word is MIGHT !!! take that dog away from children before the dog does a Hannibal Lecter and tears his face off. Sorry..... call me all the names you would like, DON'T gamble with little kids ...they don't have a choice in the matter.

Here Son...have a loaded shotgun go out and play........if there is a 1% chance that that dog will bite your kid then you should get rid of it. Bansh made a comment about 2k rat dogs...the difference is when they bite you it hurts for a few minutes heck you might even need two stitches. When you get lit up by a Pit it's GAME OVER !

Pull your head out !

I've held my tongue long enough. I posted this thread as I am happy to have this dog. If you want to spite hate do it somewhere else. You want to judge me as a mom? FUKC off!!! Stating your opinion is one thing but insulting me is completely out of line. You want to say all these horrible things about Pits well go live in your bubble, there's a million things out there that "might' hurt you. Many Pits are loving adorable animals. Some don't make ALL bad dogs. I take precautions with ANY animal. Stop insulting my motherhood, don't you have something better to do?

If i posted a photo of my new 9MM and posted it with a little kid holding it, this board would jump all over me. A post like this is looking for attention. Everyone on earth knows that this breed is VERY much in question. If you post a photo with a little kid and one of these dogs, it is going to draw attention from all sides.

This is bigger concern because it is a rescued pit and you don't know what stuff is in it's past. It is not like you were able to bring it up around your kids.

again DON'T BET ON LITTLE KIDS LIVES !!!!

Why'd you delete it BADGAS? I copy pasted it. This shows you no nothing about the breed as a whole. your a moron. What kind of a comparison is this? a 9mm? lmao.gif I'm laughing right now...Thanks!

I'm not insulting you, i'm sure you have a HUGE heart and you are a great mother.

I'm just scared for your Son and for that i can't say i'm sorry...i have seen first hand what these dogs can do.

laughing.gif vicious!!! Yeah I know Tia from the rescue and others said ignore the comments but sometimes a girl can only take so much ya know? I been working with this dog for almost 2 months before I even brought him home. Its not like a walked into some random rescue and pulled out some pit I knew nothing about...My son and I both train with him. He will more than likely become a therapy type dog of some sort. after we have had time.... He truly has a heart of gold.

Congrats on your new family member. I think he has beautiful eyes. I would have a house full of dogs if I lived where I could keep them all. I would love to rescue them all. I think you did a good thing. Keep us posted and I love the pics.

thats great.. we got ours from a adoption place when he was a puppy but has been around our 4 year old son the whole time.. he is about 14 months now and he is the best dog ive had and is great with my cat and gets along with other dogs with no issues.. heck he can do most of all the popular tricks and we have our son tell him to do the tricks and he listens to him also.. we are thinking of getting another one soon its just said to hear all the bad things they say about them when ive seen way worse problems from other breeds...
Cacti'
I understand someone having fears...about anything...pit bulls, street bikes, dirt bikes, snakes, etc etc etc. I get comments that my son rides a dirt bike at such a young age too...Ya just can't win...somebody's always gonna say something I guess..

I felt attacked as a mother. Resorting to name calling is not my style, for that I apologize. Makes me no better....I'd like to instead show people that not all pits are bad. Thats not why I got the dog. I got the dog cuz after dog sitting them I decided I loved them and wanted one for my family..This particular dog and his story melted my heart.

Your obviously on a mission. Using my thread as a place to throw up that is BS. Your attempt is biased and propaganda from dog haters. I could show you double that in good deeds Pits have done but why should I...Your going to spew till you taste your own vomit...thought you were going away? And you obviously don't read EVERYTHING. Okay we get you hate pits but your really being rude here. How can you justify that? Please....Keep your hate to yourself.

Some of you people need to have some respect...it's one thing to state your opinions but its another thing to attack a person that you dont even know about a situation you dont know as well. Seriously! ANY animal can turn on their owner or any other person..doesn't mean they dont deserve a chance.

It pisses me off that people think so bad about Pit's. The whole reason that these dogs have a bad rep is because they are strong dogs. Why does that make them bad?. EVERY animal is a wild animal, period. This dog is no different than any other dog out there. Just because stupid people use these dogs for fighting does not mean every pit is bad, they are raised to be bad by those stupid people, PERIOD.
Ever hear the saying "A bad word travels fast, but a good word hardly travels"? Well, there you go. All you hear about is the bad, but you never hear the good.

This is from "Don't Bully My Breed Info.org I copy pasted it.

Breeds are not the problem.........People are!

Day in and day out we have people ask us questions about certain breeds of dogs. People are most concerned with American Pit Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Chow-Chows, Shar-peis, and Akitas.

What all of these breeds have in common is that they often attract the wrong type of people for owners. The breeds themselves are not the issue; socialization and responsible ownership are the issues. Quite often when people get dogs for intimidation, protection, fighting, etc., they deliberately do not socialize the dog properly. The dog is kept locked in a basement, an abandoned house, or left in the backyard. These dogs are often starved, taunted, and provoked. They do not have the opportunity to meet different people or other dogs. Understandably so, this often leads to wariness on their part.

When a child is neglected by its guardian and locked in a closet, and a social worker/police officer arrives on the scene and rescues the child from the situation, the expectation is that the child will lovingly run into the arms of their rescuer displaying gratitude. What really happens is that the child, being overstimulated by suddenly being thrust into an unfamiliar situation with strange sights, smells, and sounds, will lash out at the social worker--spitting, kicking, and even biting. This is similar to what happens to an unsocialized dog when it is rescued.

Take the example of the woman who lost her life in the Dan Ryan Woods recently (Chicagoland area). Dogs are pack animals. The dogs in that case were running in a pack, poorly socialized, starving, freezing, and they saw something running. Due to these conditions, they viewed the runner as prey, with tragic results. Dogs are also territorial, which can cause an unsocialized dog to feel provoked when someone enters what he perceives is "his" territory. This has nothing to do with breed.

When an unsocialized small breed dog chases and bites somebody's ankles, people laugh. When a large breed dog does it, it's not so funny. The breed of dog in the Dan Ryan Woods incident is a breed that has a 95% passing rate when tested by the American Canine Temperament Testing Association making them the 4th highest out of 122 breeds. This dog is the American Pit Bull Terrier.

How can a dog with such a high passing rate so often be accused and/or found guilty of such horrific things? Because these dogs are being bred indiscriminately by bad people.

It is estimated that there are 60,000 Pit Bull Terriers in the city of Chicago. These dogs are almost always owned by people that do not socialize them properly, resulting in a wary, guarded animal. Considering that these dogs are so frequently in the hands of the criminal element or neglectful people looking for an intimidating status symbol, and that there are so many of them in the city, the true measure of their temperament is not the occasional, well-publicized, tragic incident, but that so few negative incidents occur relative to the size of their population.

Despite being the most common victim of animal abuse/cruelty in an urban environment, they are still very loving, people oriented, highly trainable, and highly rehabilitatable dogs. If suddenly there was an increase in red cars running people over, would we assume red cars should be banned? No, common sense would dictate that red is a more popular color choice for car owners.

Will banning a breed work to alleviate the problem? No! The unsavory, criminal element will just become better at hiding their dogs and the responsible dog owners will suffer. The criminal element will also start indiscriminately breeding another breed. For example, Chakitas are all the rage now......Chow-Chows mixed with Akitas.

The Supreme Court in Alabama just ruled against breed specific legislation as proof could NOT be found that one breed is genetically more "dangerous" than another. In the city of Chicago, we also do not have Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Chicago has "dangerous dog laws," judging each individual dog on an individual basis, instead of "dangerous breed laws" that judge dogs based on their breed.

As the owner of a 90 .lb Akita/Pit Bull Terrier mix, I often have people ask me if I am worried he'll suddenly "turn on me." My dog is a graduate of beginner, intermediate, and advanced obedience training and is just now learning how skilled he is at agility.
Is he perfect? No.
Is he the most loving, affectionate dog, who tolerates living with a whole slew of foster cats, rabbits, etc.? Yes.
Would I trade him for anything in the world?
Never!

i had three pitbulls, all three of them had never bite or get vicious on my kids at all. last week i went to dog park and there was 5 pitbulls and my english bulldog played with them and there were bunch of kids playing around. they are very lovely. i m sick of people seeing pitbulls and label them as dangerous.

your dog is very beautiful. congrats!
jchappy
You can't judge a dog by it's breed but only in how he was raised. All the pits you read about were probably raised to be agressive in some way. I think what poeple have an issue about this dog is he has a past of being abused and something down the road may trigger an agressive behaiver. I think if you would have raised this dog from an early age (6-8 weeks old) this wouldn't even be an issue. But a dog with a past (Pit or not) you still need to be careful around your kids.
