SHOCKER
Ok, i have a rear rim on my odyssey 250 that I want to get the tire off, the rim is a 2 piece rims, i cant break the friken bead, i tried jacking it up between a jack and the tow hithc and iut didnt work, and now i have seperated the rim and i tried break the bead by pulling the 2 piece rim in diferent directions so the tire is now spread out and still cant break the bead, the bead looks like there a little rust and i sprayed wd40 to try to break it up and it still wont go, i dont want to pay money to get it off, what can i do?
Sandho
Do you need the tire?? If not just CUT it off.

If you need the tire a bead breaker is the only way to go rollsmile.gif Good luck..............
SHOCKER
well the tire is in good shape, but i heard those bead breakers arent that great
DIRTADDICT
.....My shop does up to 800 pass & light truck tires a month. We don't even touch ATC stuff. Too much work for zero money, and we always bang up the rims. I own quads and bikes. I have been doing both my self up to the age of 30. That was 6 years ago. Now, I take my stuff off the bike, and take it to craperral (www.chaparral-racing.com). It's like 10 bucks. just make sure you check your rim locks on your bikes. They don't tighten them back down.

put your rims back together. with all the air out of it try to step on the tires (not rim) and push the tire down with your feet. do something like that. or you can buy a small bead breaker at the cycle shop for like $10-$15 and then you can have one for future problems.

SHOCKER
I tried jumping on it at first then i took the rims apart and i hit with a mallet while the tire was spread and that didnt work either, i have heard thos bead breakers dont work that good

Most shops will swap tires for 10 bucks. My dirt bike paddle is well worth the 10 bucks to have them do it!!!! Oh man what a PITA.

I think some of you are talking about Motorcycle tires and some atv tires...

Motorcycle tires are actually quite easy when you get it down to a science..
here's a couple of tips.

KEEP THE BEAD DOWN WHEN CHANGING TIRES.
Changing tires easily is all about being smarter than the tire. The diameter of the bead of the tire is smaller than the outside diameter of the rim--duh! So to get the tire on or off the rim, the bead must be pushed down inside of the drop center of the rim and kept there while the opposite side of the tire is leveraged over the rim edge.

USE FOUR TIRE IRONS.
Once you have deflated the tube and "broken down the bead" (pushed it into the drop center of the rim), insert four tire irons between the bead and the rim, spaced about 5 inches apart. Start in the middle, and progressively work out to the sides using the four irons, checking that the bead opposite the irons is down. Using multiple irons eliminates fighting to get them in under the bead and virtually erases the possibility of the bead falling back under the rim after you pull it out.

USE WD-40 WHILE CHANGING TIRES.
I use WD-40 to help remove old tires and to ease the installation of new meat. It is mostly a carrier and evaporates quickly. Spray the bead area, but be very careful not to get any spray on a brake rotor.

INSTALL THE TUBE FIRST.
I have found that installing a partially inflated tube in a new tire is the easiest way to mount tires. Lightly coat the inside of the tire with baby powder first, so the tube will find its place nicely inside the tire.

VALVE-STEM NUT AS LOCATOR.
Use the small nut on the valve stem to stop the stem from receding into the tire while you're trying to push the bead inside the rim. I always install the stem in the hole of the rim first, then thread the nut on about 1/4 inch to hold the stem up. Never thread the nut all the way down; this will either result in a pinched tube while tire-changing or the stem being torn out while riding. Once inflated, thread the nut up against the cap, not the rim.

SUN A TIRE.
Set a new tire out in the sun before changing to soften it up and make changing it easier

Now generally speaking atv tires are easier....

I'd try putting them back together, leaving them in the sun for a while,
And then set them under the levelling jacks of your Toy Trailer ( If its handy)
and then cranking the foot of the leveling jack down where the rim meets the tire etc. might help to have two people.

i've layed the tired on the ground and ran it over with my truck. you need to get as close to the edge of the rim as possible, smashing the tire flat, thus pulling the bead away from the rim. also you'll need to have someone stand on the tire so it stays flat on the ground. more than likly the tire will still come up so when the tire is popped up at its highest point, the guy standing on the tire can jump on it. works every time. by the way, make sure the valve stem is out.

redandblackonebanshee
spray it with a lubricant and use screwdrivers to hold the bead down as you step on it

we can give that a shot

Sure, when ever i get over there to get the stuff i will drop off that tire and ya can try it, hey i looked at the lake elsinore track site and they have a mini quad track for AJ, im trying to find info on the track so i can go and test it and maybe if i like it i will racae in the novice or am class, it all depends if i need boots, nerfs, and a kill switch
mike
I didnt read thru all the post, but I have used my trk to break the bead on my front sandcar tire...slow/careful,but it works awsum, and free!!!
throwinrox
with these rims the bead breaker was the only way to go. the tire does not pop onto a bead. the rim is the same diameter all the way across to the center. before I got the bead breaker I used to put a bottle jack under my tow hitch and on top of the tire then jack up the truck, would not have worked in this case.
