Full Version: Driving Fast And Roosting With Your Rail Whats The Point ?
GlamisDunes.com > Sandrail Forums > Bench Racing

I know I will not be making many friends by saying this, but I'd just like to ask what the point of driving fast and throwing sand ? To show off the number of dollar bills tucked into your rail? How many accidents have there been because of this "fast duning" phenomenon? How many quads, bike, rail have been run over by sandrails driving fast ?

In most racing / driving you want to keep the sand on the ground, or at least have all no airborne sand in the air . It's not a show of skill of any kind. I understand on a motorcycle, driving fast and throwing sand takes some skill (I know, I've been trying). But in an overpowered toy, it's just mashing the pedal and impressing nobody. It's not talent, it's power-to-weight and weight distribution.

"Look at me, I've got 700hp and I don't know what to do with it! I certainly cannot use it for anything else" (unless you're Robby Gordon)

I equate it to loud stereos in mini-trucks. People look at you, you get attention, but most of them think you're an idiot. I certainly don't support banning any activity (of any kind), but just know that I (and MANY others) think you're an idiot for doing them. When I see a car going fast and throwing sand , I think the driver is trying to make up for lack of something.

and there's a big IMHO here!

After these two threads were started we have decided to put governors on our sand rails and just enjoy all the wonderful sites at Glamis no need to go over 20 mph in the sand it just makes a lot of dust and unnecessary noise.....

I totally agree! Thats why when I do wheelies I try to throw little, to no sand!

Not really clear on when the throwing sand is inappropriate Tim, I mean when I'm out duning and run it in to a corner pretty hard grab a little cutting brake to initiate a slide and get on the throttle pretty good it does throw some sand from the PADDLES. Is this the roost activity you are referring to?

btw... never seen a sand drag where the sand stayed on the ground dunno.gif

Absolutely not, too much moisture in the air with that.

You should only though sand if your buddy behind doesn't have a windshield. Only with a spotter with noone else around. Just for a good photo opp.
sanduras
i seen some of those hopped up 70s with the big bore kits just rippen through the kiddie tracks just a throwin sand.i think we should put some kind of goverment regulation on them. carb?i even seen some of them pullin WHEELIES!ban them NOW. i dont like it.

OK then.

Let's add it up. Duners & spectators killed by going fast vs. wheelies (within the last 10 years). Justifying things is not the same as living with the consequences.

Skydivers vs. Swoopers. Same activity, one unnecessarily much more risky. To each his own, but I prefer not being a statistic.

I like going fast, as fast as possible actually, but not with an audience of spectators / potential victims.

I don't think that Funco that split in half on a kiddy track by Gecko was wheelieing at the time.
Just saying

The problem is we need more laws. Perhaps we can raise the fees so a ranger can be posted in each bowl to make sure no sand gets thrown?? The law should only apply to sandrails because the only people that own them have more money than brains.

I can see it now......

Some people just should not leave there homes the world just might be to dangerous. BTW look for me in the dunes i'll be the rail throwing a huge roost on two wheels.
edromofo
Don't roost me bro! dont roost me!... why are you roosting me?

BRILLIANT!!! Maybe we can get a law that will prevent people from leaving their houses. Great brainstorming session everyone. clap.gif

Never seen a sand drag where the sand stayed on the ground ... not dunning not nesasriay you can have more consideration of your fellow dunners in your group then that!!!!! Think about the person behind you WOW there's a thought

I have seen some of the fat heads with 1000+ hp The holier than thou attitudes. lol

I think I must not be understanding something here. "Fast Duning" and throwing sand is unsafe, but Horsepower Wars at over 100+MPH within 100 yards of camps, and Sand Drags within 30 feet of people os ok? The large majority of accidents occur near camps, on sand highway and at Olds. What am I missing? I am not bashing any of these, as I love all of them, but out in the dunes seems to be the safest, least crowded area!
