The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has released its report on the
South County Phase 2 Particulate Matter Study. The study was conducted to determine the cause
of high levels of airborne particulate matter impacting air quality and public health on the Nipomo
Mesa, and whether offroad vehicle activity on the Oceano Dunes is a contributing factor.
The APCD and its study partners will host a public workshop on March 3 to share the results of
Study. The workshop will serve as a forum for county residents to gain a better understanding of
the particulate pollution affecting the South County. During the workshop, presenters will describe
the study design and sampling methods, review the data analyses performed and discuss the results
and key findings of the Study. Questions from the public will be answered by a panel of experts
instrumental in conducting the study.
Three independent investigations were conducted over a twelve-month period using sophisticated
air monitoring and analytical sampling technologies to measure ambient particulate matter levels
and associated meteorology, determine the elemental composition of airborne particle samples,
and measure the physics of sand movement. Over 2 million data points were generated, requiring
nearly a year to review, validate and analyze the data and compile the results. The study report
and technical appendices will be available for review at the South County, San Luis Obispo and
Paso Robles public libraries, and can also be downloaded at the APCD website:
www.slocleanair.org. The comments from the scientific peer reviewers and raw data from the
three independent studies will be posted to the APCD’s website shortly. The study report will be
presented to the APCD Board at their March 24 meeting.

So why should this concern you?, well if they get traction with this and shut down Oceano Dunes SVRA, where do you think it's going next???...TJ
