WORKSHOP SET TO DISCUSS
SOUTH COUNTY PARTICULATE MATTER STUDY

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 6 – 9 pm
South County Regional Center
800 West Branch Street, Arroyo Grande

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has released its report on the
South County Phase 2 Particulate Matter Study. The study was conducted to determine the cause
of high levels of airborne particulate matter impacting air quality and public health on the Nipomo
Mesa, and whether offroad vehicle activity on the Oceano Dunes is a contributing factor.
The APCD and its study partners will host a public workshop on March 3 to share the results of
Study. The workshop will serve as a forum for county residents to gain a better understanding of
the particulate pollution affecting the South County. During the workshop, presenters will describe
the study design and sampling methods, review the data analyses performed and discuss the results
and key findings of the Study. Questions from the public will be answered by a panel of experts
instrumental in conducting the study.
Three independent investigations were conducted over a twelve-month period using sophisticated
air monitoring and analytical sampling technologies to measure ambient particulate matter levels
and associated meteorology, determine the elemental composition of airborne particle samples,
and measure the physics of sand movement. Over 2 million data points were generated, requiring
nearly a year to review, validate and analyze the data and compile the results. The study report
and technical appendices will be available for review at the South County, San Luis Obispo and
Paso Robles public libraries, and can also be downloaded at the APCD website:
www.slocleanair.org. The comments from the scientific peer reviewers and raw data from the
three independent studies will be posted to the APCD’s website shortly. The study report will be
presented to the APCD Board at their March 24 meeting.

So why should this concern you?, well if they get traction with this and shut down Oceano Dunes SVRA, where do you think it's going next???...TJ

I am confident some of the contractors from Phoenix can provide some insight into this. The dust issue is making headway here in Phoenix and it shows on construction sites. It also shows on air quality commercials where they admonish not to ride to create dust. Just a matter of time before they can close of land due to dust issues.

CARB would have no legislative hurdle to proceed with doing so. Curious if in California you have the same dust control regulations on new construction, etc that they have in Maricopa County.

this amazes me they moniter the air just west of the dunes and say there is a particulate matter problem ? I can tell u for a fact that it does not matter if Atvs are on the beach or not! when the wind blows the sand flies !! the whole Nipomo mesa is made of sand dunes ! The envrio nazis are well intrenched within county of SLO with many being on the council and the grand jury ! it wont be long folks !
Race Face
Hey, They've got folks convinced that an essential gas, carbon dioxide, is now a poison... Shouldn't be a big stretch to convince the 'sheep' that suddenly dust is a poison...

Not long now, and we'll be watering crops with Brawndo, 'cause it has electrolytes and plants crave it.

Brawndo, It's got what plants crave!!

I have customers in constuction that have had big fines for dust, it is the new tactic for getting things stopped. Even my ag. customers are stating to get hit, One had a water truck driving behind the plow (as it plowed) to stop the dust. Farmers have been prettty safe from these things but its starting to impact them as well.

use to have an EPA guy that would sit outside the place I dumped (northern CA) just to watch for dust. Not sure how anyone can dump 24 tons of fly ash 4-5 times a day without making any dust but apparently he thought it was possible.

They say to a man that makes a living swinging a hammer everything starts looking like a loose nail, bottom line is our Government needs to stop paying people to invent issues, knowing full well there's no logical solution and it really don't matter anyway...TJ

The problem is they tested the air next to the ohv dunes and next to the non-ohv dunes and said the particulate is higer because the ohv stirs up the sand. They said the non-ohv sand forms a crust so when the wind blows it doesnt have the particulate matter in the air. I hope this doesnt pass as this is the place that my family and I got to. It never ends.

crust my (_|_) ! you guys know as well as I do dry sand dunes do not have a crust ! thats why they are called ever changing dunes because they move ?

I never realized how ugly those girls were that hung with Tatoo! Birds of a feather...

I'm pretty scared about this one. We shall see the outcome. Also on a side note people should join organizations to fight this instead of complaining about it. The Blue Ribbon Coilition is a key player in helping to keep our riding area's open. You can talk all the crap you want but put your money where your mouth is. Even join free places if you're that tight on a buck.
Here is a link for the Access Army and Save The Trails.

You need to join or your toys won't be worth there weight in metal!
