What a long week!
But the tail ends good!
So after shelling out 300 bucks at the emergency vet Sunday (OUCH) for the vet to look at it, pain shot, wound scrub and bandage, 4 (yes FOUR) pain pills and 7 days of antibiotics, they said they recommended stitches, but they said would be about 1K total.

Said it was so large and deep would take 2-3 MONTHS to heal and would need to be bandaged the entire time. OMG!
So working in the rescue community, Kim gave me a few of the folks she would ask for vet recommendations. I called her friend Marci, from Homestead Kennels in North Phoenix that does greyhound and pit bull rescue as well as runs a beautiful large boarding kennel. If ANYONE in Phoenix is ever looking for a boarding place, this is the place to go. She and her hubby have a clean, safe and loving place for your dog to go in case you need boarding!
Anywho, she says she would take him to Paradise Valley Animal Hospital on 32nd Street and Bell. THIS IS THE BEST FREAKING VET I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS! So I take him up there Wed and the wound is still bleeding when he walks and the pain meds the other vet gave me have not taken ANY of the boost out of Turbo! They get him into the room and unwrap it, and wowzers, this is the 1st time I have really seen it with out a river of blood coming out and it is a really bad cut. So Dr. Weinacker (the vet) somes in looks at it and said in 21 years this is one of the top paw 5 cuts he has ever seen! He said that he definately would try and sew it closed because it'll take too long to heal and the risk of infection is too great. He said that he wasn't really sure if he could get it shut all the way but would put long stitches in to try to pull it together some. However they had no openings for surgery on Thurs or Friday. Dr. Weinacker said, " I can't stand that he is in pain and that is still bleeding. Just come back tomorrow around 830-9 and I will squeeze him in somewhere even if I have to skip my lunch and do it". I was floored that he would do that, and he was petting and "puppy" talking to Turbo the whole time. Meanwhile Turbo has bled all over there room and even got blood on the wall somehow. The Doc was just laughing and said that I can see why he is named Turbo he is a high speed guy. He gave me a script of 30 Tramadol to help the pain and calm him down.
So I go back Thursday morning, the office staff were all petting him and they took him in the back to give him some happy medicine so he could chill out and wait for his surgery. They called me every hour or so to let me know he was doing great and when they took him into surgery. I go back around 2 to get him and the vet assistant was laughing and telling me how Turbo would not go under with the light anestesia and she held his head in her lap for an hour waiting for him to go to sleepy land, no luck. So they had to use the heavy duty sleepy gas and he FINALLY went to sleep She said that Turbo is becoming a fast favorite there because he is so goofy and friendly.

She said the cut was WAY worse then they thought initially and the doc would explain it all. So he comes out and explains it was actually good they had to put him under so deep because after he started poking around and cleaning the wound he said was cut to the BONE. He had to do one layer of stitches near the bone, one layer under the skin, and another on the paw pad itself, but amazingly he was able to completely close the wound!

Even he was shocked that he got it to close! so we have to go back Monday/Fridays for the next 2 weeks for bandage changes. Then taking the stitches out in 2-3 weeks, he will need to go to sleepyville again for that.
So here I am after all this major surgery that they had to do thinking OMG this is going to be a HUGE bill above the 196 that they orignially quoted me ( the 196 included the Wed visit, the meds, and the prcedure Thurs, what an awesome deal!) but they said they do not go over the quoted cost and that was that! I about cried, these guys do AMAZING work, top level animal care, and don't gouge their prices! He even said I got a great deal, but all he cares about is Turbo getting better and being able to be healed and pain free. He said that is probably why he drives a Honda.

Oh, and that 196 also includes the 4 bandage wrap/change appointments.
I cannot say enough about Paradise Valley Animal Hospital, Dr. Weinacker, Nate, Destinee, and all of the staff there. What an amazing place that loves pets and knows all of them by name basis when they come in the door, know what their history is and cares deeply about each one comes in the door.
Turbo is still limping around, and is being good about no licking the bandage (for the most part lol) and as long as we don't get an infection he hopefully should be healed up in 3-4 weeks.
I have a pic of his cut, I can post it up if y'all want to see it.
