Last weekend out my wife pulled her car out of the trailer and the power steering was hard to turn either way but it still turned. We had Bruce (CBM) bring us out a new Howe steering pump but no change,im not sure what to look at now,it has a hydrolic piston rack up front and some kind of valve in between. The fluids are full so does anybody have an idea of what i can check? Thanks Jerry

Your problem may not be related to the pump or rack. My wife's Funco was exhibiting the same symptom. You could not turn the steering wheel without a great deal of effort and it seemed to be getting worse. The problem alluded me for quite some time until I started thinking outside the "box". After much troubleshooting, I discovered the bushing that the steering shaft ran through right beneath the steering wheel had transferred some of its material to the chrome steering shaft causing the shaft to bind. I removed the steering shaft and thoroughly cleaned the plastic bushing and shaft. Worked perfect after cleaning. One finger turning again. Hope this is of some help.

Did you grease the rack? There should be three zerks.

It could be that simple, like stated before, they get pack up with sand.

Yeah Jerry, grease her rack.

Then post pics.

Any binding in the steering shaft will cause a similar problem. You would not believe how little it takes on the input side to make it feel that the problem is with the PS system. It is usually a u-joint gone bad or not clocked properly. As mentioned, check all steering bearings, carriers, or bushings as well as the u-joints.
