We had a race out there last weekend and the mud was insane from the rain saturday night and sunday.. Heres a small video Beau from PromotoTV has up already. I'm sure there will be some more footage out later in the week. I sat this race out due to my bike being worked on and I didn't want to waste my Quad ride. I think over half of the field DNF'd due to mechanical issues from this race. The course was just brutal to say the least and even trying to 4x with my truck out to the start was insane. laughing.gif

damm, I wanted to watch that! did it start on the lakebed again this year? I did the "king of the desert" back in 1996 during the hurricane. the whole lakebed was just that a lake, that mud just sticks and sticks, must have made for an interesting race? who ended up getting the overall? i bet the waterfall was flowing this year (backside of superstition on the course)

Kendall Normal overalled it with Destry Abbot and David Pearson 2nd and 3rd. Usually the B loop is just killer and takes it toll on everybody but this year the A loop was worse! The waterfall behind Superstition was flowing pretty good I guess and Abbott and Pearson got stuck there for a bit and thats how Kendall Norman took the overall. I guess Pearson fell over into the water and Abbott couldn't go anywhere to get around him. And you're right, that mud out there is like riding on ice and it sticks to everything. Do you know where the "whirly bird' is? Its a metal structure that looks like an old well. It's on the south side of wheeler road. The race started there and took off towards plaster city easy. I have some more pics I'll post up tomorrow, you guys are gonna get a kick out of them. There was some crazy rivers flowing through the race course. Here's a couple of Destry Abbott for now that I stole from dirtfocus.. lol

cool pics, im sorry i missed it! yeah, i know where the "whirl bird" is. so it started there and headed for the snow cones by the prison?

thats funny that old race course section there is the old king of the desert track from the fud days. It started where the national started last year headed out to west pits then back in across the dirty brown grounds up over hot nuts knoll and down through kamikazi wash where it went by the whirly bird on into the snow cones to east pits. they used to build a little mx type section on the lake bed for the finish. the cars and trucks would do it too, was pretty cool.

you gonna race alot this year? i really want to get back into it, and back into shape.

Yep I'll be out there a lot for sure.. You should come out and do some races! You can pit with our group and somebody will dump fuel for you during pit stops. The race headed south west towards plaster city east and then under the trestles towards west. I guess when they marked the course there wasn't much water on the lakebed, and on sunday it was 2-3 feet deep in places. A lot of bikes died right there.. Check out amad38.com and look under the "rain kings" thread and theres lot of stories about sundays race. Honestly I'm kind of bummed I didn't race but also glad, because those kind of races really jack up the bikes. Hope to see you out there one of these days!

I was tempted to race that one, kinda glad I sat it out. It would have been fun but I think it would have destroyed my bike. I hear there were still a couple of stuck bikes out there today!

I had two friends who left their bikes out there overnight. He went home and grabbed his Rhino and went back yesterday. They had two bikes tied up like this on each side of the rhino lol. Check out the pic

Looks like a blast to me! Riding in the rain and mud used to be the only way I could get my boots to break-in.
