So I hooked up with a new group and I notice this guy has a front sand tire on his CR250r. I asked him about it and he seemed to love it. I had never seen such a thing on a dirt bike! So couple rides later, a new kid in the group rolls up with the same front tire. Also in love with it.

So I bite the bullet and bought one for myself. HOLY MOLY I totally dig it. It grabs in turns out there like never before! Here's some pics of it on my bike.

Why should I be inconvienced by your lack of technological advancement? laughing.gif

I just seen those at the local bike shop in Fullerton. I think they were under $50 bucks. but now you got to pay to have 2 tires swapped at every dune season.!!
Good to finally hear some feedback on them. Thanks!

I have had them on my last 2 bikes. I always have people coming up to me asking about it. Don't see them too often in the dunes. They work awesome once you get used to it.

Had one myself, also didn't like it, knifed to much in the corners. A buddy of mine came up with these, "Trac-Straps" just got his patent pending, should be selling them everywhere by summer time. Couple of magazines will be running articles on them soon.
They fit on any regular front knobby tire. On in minutes off in seconds. Hands down outperform any designated "sand tire" on the market today! You can lay it into any turn at 35 to 40 mph and change direction on a dime with total confidience. The straps running down the sidewall act like little paddles and give you so much traction and control, its amazing.

very interesting. Please post more info when those are available. I was going to get my boyfriend the front sand tire for his birthday in Sept but maybe try those out if the price is right.

That looks like a serious gimmick if I have ever seen one. Im not saying i wouldnt try them out, just saying.

Also, have you ever had one fly off and hit you under your chin when your doing 60+ ? That would effin hurt ! LOL!

There has been extensive testing on them over the last 6 months with many riders and many hrs of ride time, no issues. I've had the same set on my bike since December with nothing but awesome performance. I know its hard to believe something so simple could work so well. I guarantee you'll be seeing them next Glamis season, and if you ever try them you will believe. Dont know which magazine will come out with a write-up first, but they won't BS you, so keep an eye out for the article coming soon.

So you guys really washing out the front tire in sand? I can see riding the hardpack stuff....but in G?

Maybe i need to push harder cause the front losing traction is never ever an issue...its that damn back tire that will step out from ya during the high speed corners.

My buddy said they are being manufactured right now and should be available retail early summer. Don't know final price, but they are shooting for the $59 to $69 dollar range. If you are paying to have your "sand tire" mounted and dismounted Trac-Straps will pay for themselves in a couple of trips to the dunes. Every tire is different but they all have a repeating set of knobs somewhere around the tire. 12 straps fit around most tire designs. They can either strap around the center knob and both side knobs, or just the center knob, or just the side knobs, depending on the tire design. Don't have a close-up but they have small slots that fit snuggly around the knobs keeping them securely in place. They snap together with a quick-release squeeze buckle. I run a Michelin and the knobby pattern repeats itself so often I can run 12, 14, 16 straps depending on how aggessive I want to be. After trying them all I like running 12 straps on my bike and my son likes running 16 on his.
