ive heard this is a common problem with the 426, and even though it is an easy and fairly inexpensive fix, it can be ugly if left unnoticed.
Going to look at one tomorrow that appears to be in immaculate condition. So my question is, how do I check for this and how do I know it needs to be replaced?
Thanks

if it kinks, its bad. should move fluently. Its similar to the YFZ and YZF chains i believe.

They stretch so they will get sloppy if they kink or jump a tooth prepare to replace everything from the crank up. As the Previous Owner if it has ever been changed if he says no.. DO IT and DO IT NOW!!

the last owner had never done it himself but had taken it into the shop to have the valves checked and have it looked over and they said everything was great. I dont know if they checked the chain but i am considering getting one just in case..

if they checked the valves they could have checked for slack in the chain as well since they had the valve cover off the cam chain is right there.

ok then i think i will by alright for now. it doesn't seem like there are enough hours on the bike to really worry about it anyway.
