I need to change my checking account because Chase sucks big time! When it was WaMu, it was great but now it's horrible! I tried to deposit 2 checks in the ATM and it would not accept one of them...and I tried at 3 different branches. The other thing that irritates me is that when payday comes around chase says that it's "pending" for a couple of days....keep in mind that my paycheck is direct deposit...when it was WaMu it went in right away.
So, what bank do you have? and do you like it or not? Does it hold your paychecks for a couple of days?
I refuse to go with BofA or Wells Fargo....so don't even bother mentioning those

With the banks these days, you might be better keeping your money in your bed mattress, or switching to gold or something.

I'm in the same boat as you, was with WaMu and loved them, now Chase and the jury is still out, we'll see what happens.

I know you said you refuse to go with BofA, but that's who I have had since 2004, and have never had a single issue with them. I have checking, savings, and a CC with them.
Paycheck gets credited every other Friday without any issue.
When I wanted a higher credit limit to buy some things for my house, I called and they doubled it right there on the phone with me.
When I was going to buy a quad but it was a Sunday I called and they upped the limit I could withdraw from the ATM so that I could do the transaction.
When my card was stolen, they noticed a purchase that didn't follow my 'buying patterns', and canceled the card before the thief even had a chance to use it.
I think that BofA is a good bank as long as you manage your money well and aren't irresponsible with it, but if you do overdraft or something you are going to be hit with some bad fees.

Credit unions are the way to go. They are usually member owned so they want to break even instead of making bazillions or dollars off their customers.

Same here. I have had really good luck with BofA as well. Been with them over 10 years. Checking & Savings Acct's. Also have direct deposit. The online banking / bill pay works really well.
Also have acct's at OCTFCU credit union. (I think they recently changed the name. Might be schools first now)
They have been good too, but my primary acct's are BofA.

I left BofA after they leveed 5 overdrafts against my account in 1 night. My check was deposited at 12am and the 5 bills were paid at 12 am also. BofA policy will pay the bills first though then deposit the pay check so instead of covering me, they charged me $125 for the privaledge of not bouncing the checks I paid the bills with. I went in and tried to get them to refund me the money and closed my account after they wouldn't.
I use western federal credit union and do most of my banking through a co-op with arrowhead credit union.

I bank with USBANK and they do the same thing as BOA they pay the drafts before the deposits and stuff seems to be pending for 1-3 days. Also you can deposit cash and still wont cover any checks that go thru the same night aas the day you deposited the cash...and their ovedraft charge is 37.50...

Try to get into a credit union first, many of them have no special membership requirements, but even the worst credit union will treat you better than most banks.
Of the nationwide banks that I've heard of, US Bank seems to get the best reviews. I just recently opened an account with them (in a Vons, no less) and so far, I've never had to wait in line, and every transaction has been great. No weird rules, excessive check holding periods, or any other things that make most banks a nightmare to deal with. The nearest branch is in the Vons on Mission Gorge, near Town Center.

Wells Fargo plays the same game. That’s how they have the money to buy the next bank you go to. Every bank I’ve ever opened a checking account at has been bought by Wells Fargo or B of A; Crocker, Security Pacific, First interstate. Now I bank at a Credit Union

Credit Unions by far are the best thing to cash in hand.
I retain an account with Wels Fargo.
Trick is to leave some money in there to pad the account and not buy everything you want right away.
I recently received a certified bank check drawn from BofA....went to BofA and had to wait 30 minutes to cash it, with 10 people in line, 4 tellers working....
Not a fan of BofA

As somebody in a position right now dealing with banks on identity theft issues, I can tell you that.....Bank of America.....is hands down the **WORST**, least helpful bank in existence. I can tell you that they couldn't care less about their customers.
I have account as a credit union acoount, Wells Fargo and Chase. I never write checks and never do anything but use the ATM for cash so I have had no problems with any of them. I specifically like WF because everywhere I go, there are WF ATM's.

But your hubby is going to be a Deputy soon, correct???? Their is San Diego Municipal Credit Union. had them but closed it ONLY because they only have two locations and they charge you to use your debit card and I only use debit card. I am pretty sure there is another one that he would qualify for too but can't remember the name of it.
I have Chase too (prior WAMU) and am not having any problems with them but I am going to change over to Kaiser Credit Union this week.
The big banks have too many fees and are too impersonal. I like the feel of a credit union much better.

I went through this same situation last year. When WaMu changed to Chase it became a nightmare to do the simplest things. I took 6 accounts from them and went elsewhere. Wells Fargo and BofA are both equally as stupid. Go Credit Union or Cal Bank and Trust, more of a business bank though.

Run your debit card as a credit card and you won't get charged. It'll still come out of your checking account and everything like a debit. It just goes through the system differently.

I used to bank with BofA. NEVER AGAIN because of the same experiences with fees, overdrafts, false charges, and MISSING MONEY. When you catch them on it, they apologise and say it was a mistake. Yeah right.
I am happy with my credit union for the last 8 years.
My credit union does not have ATMs all over the place, but I can walk into almost any grocery store and get $100-$200 cash back from a debit purchase WITH NO FEE! Banks love people who gladly pay ATM fees--it's free money to them.
