What to do?
FCI Intake with K&N
Sparks Pipe
What else? Cam, any other mods to keep her at 91 octane?
Which shop to do the work?
Budget is 2k tops.

have a fuel customs intake for sale $100

Suspension makes it so much more fun! but look to put a decent stabilizer on it. the fuel customs intake and a good slip on will make a huge difference. The motoworks SR4 slip on for the yfz is decent priced and makes very nice power added with or with out the intake. it actually fits too. I'd still be running it but it wouldnt pass the 96DB for pro am but would pass 98 so it isnt too loud. I dont waste the money on a full system. your not pro and neither am I. only difference is im faster then you so i get a discount

50' are you sure you can get that thing that far away from your trailer.............................
TLL Suspension is the best mod you can ever get..........Cant go fast if you cant keep the wheels on the ground, Once you can keep the wheels on the ground and are bouncing the thing off the rev limiter then look into more motor.

I'd agree with the suspension mods first, I never believed it until I popped for top of the line elka's for my zilla, and the difference was just unbelievable, it was like a whole different bike, so much more plush than the already plush ride, fatigue dropped considerably also, and my old bones didn't hurt after we were done riding.

I've ridden that YFZ450 5x's more than

ever has . . .
The motor is fine as it is....That bike needs Suspension and a Stabilizer.
Considering I know exactly who and where that Quad gets ridden...I'd do this:
Steering Stabilizer $185 - eBay Item #270552728849This is way better than a Stick type...and not as much $$$ as the $500 ones...
JD Performance +2 A-Arms - $575 Webiste - ClickIts the Red ones in the picture (You choose color)
G-Force +2 to +4 Ext. Axle - $199 Website - Click
Revavle your OEM Suspension FR/BK by Works (Or whomever...) Starts at $250

if u want that axle i have a 10% off code u can use to make it only 180.
i didnt look at that stablizer but if its the ccp its very good for the $. and fully rebuildable unlike the stick types

I'm going to do the suspension at the same time I do it for the Raptor but for now I want to do power mods...
Except for Chris, nobody has pointed me to a reputable shop for doing the work and suggestions for mods like cam, piston, exhaust, intake, etc. that will still allow me to keep her at 91 octane.
Thanks for the help!

FYI,

can ride.
That engine needs to be uncorked, winds out way to early and doesn't have any snap or punch to it.
I'd check with Dasa or CTracing and see what kind of setups they have.
I don't know much about the YFZ but it seems the intake, filter and pipe combo works good.
Would the FI need to be remapped for something like that?

dollar for dollar there is NO modification to a quad or 2 wheeler that will pay more dividends than a nice suspension. bar none. dont care what all the "experts" say. suspension first, motor second.
gwtt knows these quads like the back of his hand. if you are dead set on some motor work, do the cam mod, rejet, and an fci intake with the fci filter NOT a k&n. spend the rest on suspension.
did i mention spend your money on suspension?
dont be a tightwad either when it comes to a stabilizer. get a precision.
oh yeah, get a good suspension.

What is the cam mod GWTT?
i think u degree the cam one tooth and it will make it have more top end. and if u want to make that thing make power give racers edge a call there four stroke association record speaks for itself.
Diesel.E.Coyote
Mar 26 2010, 01:50 PM
FCI intake and the DASA exhaust for the bolt ons. The cam mod retards the exhaust cam one tooth to make it the same timing as the YZ450F two wheeler.
From there for engine mods:
Carb bore to 42mm (you must rejet for anything you do)
CP 12.5:1 piston will run on pump gas (remember the compression values for the CP pistons are for 04/05 bikes, the 06 and up will be .5 compression less)
Head porting, I would send it to MMAD
Cams - Unless your doing porting, stock cams are truly the best. With engine work, look into the Warp speed cams from MMAD.
The best shop that I know if is Fuel Customs in Pomona. The do more than just make the intakes, they have a dyno and work closely with MMAD.
For suspension, A +2 standard travel set of arms from JD and some Fox floats is an amazing DUNE set-up. The shocks are really light. The g-force rear axle and a re-valve for the rear shock and your good to go.
My 2 cents.

Look at who's winning the races. Everyone chased Racers Edge of AZ this year.
DASA or Sparks BC
Stock cams
FCI Intake
42.5 carb- as big as you can go on stock venturi ring
Porting
Good tires.

Drag it out!! A few Titanium parts and other lightweight stuff, like Morgan said, check out who's winning the races at FSW's. I have all Racers Edge parts in my motor and it made 72hp and 44tq. Dynoed at CT Racing.

LL, I'd let you ride my YFZ but I think the handle bars are too high for you to reach.

Cam mod is what Coyote said. changes the timing. the floats are very nice shocks. After building and rebuilding my quad several times, I've come to the conclusion.
A good quality suspension.
comfortable controls.
more power= more to maintain.

I did porting (myself) High compression piston (only way to keep up with the fastest guys on the circuit) GYTR CDI, stock cams. Slip-on exhaust. Pro Design intake (is more secure then a fuel customs and better protection in the wet.)
(I cant see spending 500 on an exhaust ever again) so a slip on exhaust. Im happy with my FMF, but its corked up for sound robs little power but im alright.
Since you have the SE orange and the high/low speed controls, I'd send those to get revalved over spending it all on new shocks. Racetech did an awesome job revalving mine. its good enough to win B class racing but not quite Pro-Am capable and i had the lower end YFZ shock. I dont think your trying to win races. send out your shocks for a revalve, get a slip on and intake do the cam mod and a stabilizer and you'll have a ball.

If was you I would spend the money on the suspension and fast flex bars. Golden West Cycles always has great deals on suspension. If you only ride in the sand go with the +2" laeger sand edition a-arms with elka shocks or re-valued stock shocks from Racetech. Don't forget to change the rear shock as well. Any axle should do, but I went with the lone star. Team Axle is really nice but pricey. SuspensionIt is the best investment you can make for a quad. Your arms and body will thank you. There is no sense in making the quad faster if the suspension can't handle it.
If you want to put a pipe on it I would go with the Curtis Sparks pipe. It makes great bottom and mid range power. My friend has it on his yfz450 and I have the Yoshimura pipe and his beats me up the hills. Do to the better mid range. The cam mod is cheap and really wakes up the bike. Any shop can do the cam mod at the same time the pipe is put on. Don't forget to re-jet the carb. G
A pipe and the cam mod make a night and day difference in performance. If you start messing with pistons and porting you have to make sure you are mating the right parts to get the most out of the motor. I have seen many quads were someone has spend a ton of money on porting, cam and pistons and it was not much faster then mine with just a pipe and cam mod.
Just my 2cents.

DASA for the engine work they just done my yfz and a couple of my friends yfzs but it all depends on what you want to do with it if you gonna ride on the track widen it i had a yoshimura trc full exhaust on mine and that pipe worked really good with bolt on mods but you start getting into the engine the DASA pipe is what you want and definatly do the cam mod
