I have my brother-in-law coming out with us for our Easter weekend trip and he is going to bring his powered parachute. He is an experienced pilot, but he has never flown his powered parachute in the dunes. The picture below is of a powered parachute similar to the one he is bringing. We usually camp in the washes, but I'm not sure if that is going to be a good place for him to land and takeoff or not. I have heard that you cant launch from Gecko, but not sure about any other rules. I wanted to see if any of my glamisdunes peeps had any experience and advice for us: where to take-off and land, any restrictions on where you can fly?
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentIt is a two-seater, so I am going to get his passenger to take some aerial video of us duning, Should be pretty sweet as long as we keep the speed down. I guess it only does about 20-30 mph, which should be fine for when we are in the bowls since it is going in a straight line at 20mph.

Launching fron Gecko is the the only restriction I am aware of.
Launching and landing in the washes is easy enough, just need to find a fairly hard packed area.
The only thing that bothered me about flying in Glamis was the thought of some yahoo with a bottle rocket.
I fly early before most are awake.

Thanks guys. It is a lot of fun to ride in. I've been in an ultralight too and these seem a lot safer. He took me up to about 4,000 feet and then just shut the motor off. You just glide around with no power. I'm really looking forward to geting some video of our rails from the air. Should be sweet.
Anyone have any advice about the length and width of the area that we will need for takeoffs and landings in the sand? How firm does the ground need to be, most of the washes are pretty soft. If necessary, I'll just tow it with my rail from our camping spot to a takeoff/landing spot.

I was in Glamis earlier this year when there was a powered parachute get together, there must have been over 100 of them flying everywhere. I didn't see any get hassled by the cops.

I will take both you and him for a ride in my 1500Hp Tatum or I will give him 200 cash for a demo. Pls have him call me, I would like to try a flight before I take lessons on my own and I have not seen a 2 seater in forever. I will be on pad 3 and meet you wherever you are. Thanks Craig 310-351-6666
