Soooooo I'm new to all this dune stuff and hope to be in my own rail for the start of next duning season. My question is, is this seasons fatalities and accidents on par or is it on the high side for a duning season? Seems like everyweek someone is getting killed or hurt. Also would it be a bad idea to buy some atc 70's for next season for the kids or should I wait til I have a better understanding of the dunes along with more seat time. Thanx

Best thing you can do is hook up with someone who has been duning for a while, follow and learn. Most of the accidents are avoidable there is alot of "NOT PAYING ATTENTION" going on which can put you in harms way.

ATC 70's for the kids?

How old are they, will they be duning or just riding around camp? Lots too consider when getting kid bikes. My nephew is 6 and on a 90cc, my niece is 11 and has been on a 90 since she was 6, and with her petite frame she will probably be on it for a couple more seasons.
My 12 year old son, rode a 90 for a year at 6, then onto a Suzuki 230 for a couple years and now a 125 dirt bike. He wants to go back to quads so I will be looking for a honda 400ex for him and that's the last bike I am getting him, he needs to get a job. LOL

Just for tooling around camp. My main concern is them getting run down while tooling around the camp area.

need to be careful where you camp and how you set camp up. We always blocked all the ways in but maybe one or two to minimize anyone being able to rip through our circle. I don't like camping on Gecko when my daughter is with me, she is 12 and rides a YFZ 450 like an adult, but it still scares the hell out of me going across the flats over there on a quad. Too many people racing past the camps trying to impress everyone with how cool they are..

I prolly won't ever camp Gecko, seems from what I've read the people gone wild area. The washes or maybe up by the Beach store. I have alot to learn thats for sure. My kids are 10 and 12 so I watch them like a hawk.

you came to the right place and are asking the right questions. You will be fine, but like has been said, go with people that know what they are doing.. It isn't as bad as it seems. Most of the time you only hear the horror stories. we sat around the fire last weekend reliving old times, lots of laughs have been had out there for sure.. good luck.
