Hi, New to the forum and there is a lot of great info on here. I have had several ATCs over the past years. My last was an 86 250R that I sold back in the 90s. Of course I wish I wouldn't have. I now have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and son due on Thursday, so I thought I would pick up a 70 to restore for them as a rider (when they get older of course). In the interim I may have to take it for a spin or two myself. Got it off of Craig's List for $150. Been collecting parts over the winter and got started on it recently. Here are a few pics. What it looked like when I bought it; a seat I bought off of ebay (seat pan was like new and the foam was great too); seat cover after I stenciled it on new fiberglass fenders.

Home with the new baby and had a little time to work on the project. After over straightning the frame a little (on purpose) I reinforced the frame with some small angle iron. Mocked it up with some tape prior to; just to make sure that the tank would still fit and not rub.

Nice work. Should have taken the reinforcing a bit farther back though, this is where she'll snap.

I was going to do the same thing but use smaller angle or channel on top only and run it from the neck to past the tank bolt mount. I think there is enough room under the tank. I need to lengthen the frame for the 125 Lifan anyway and I was also thinking of inserting another tube inside the original to thicken the wall up. I've done it before on other tubing repairs.

Thoughts?

did you increase the rake? or is this an illusion???

B. Manley
Yes, I increased the rake by over straightening the frame. It was bent in like most, as if someone had ran into something with the front end; so when I straightened it, I went a little farther to increase the rake. I only put the reinforcements where it had bent previously; knowing that is where the weak spot would be.

Picked up this old 90. The guy said he had it running last year. I am going to cut the headlight brackets off and adapt it to my 70 project. Probably will just part the rest of it out. I will post pics of the headlight on the 70 forks in a few days.

Nice work, looking good!
So is that a camero in the shed? At a guess I would say its a 69/70 model.......
B. Manley
Thanx Mardy. Actually that is a 67 Camaro. Frame off project I have had going for a few years. Wife, Babies, House; all kind of slowed it down a little but I am getting there.

I blasted my wheels, footpegs, forks and headlight over the weekend. I powder coated the wheels and footpegs, and am waiting for the red powder to come in later this week, for the forks and headlight. Hopefully I can start putting it back togather next week!

'67 eh? Well I wasnt to far off.....lol
Looking good with the 70 so far. Its coming together nice!

I powder coated the forks and headlight bucket last night. I was surprised how well the color matched the original. I got the powder from Summit Racing. It is called "traffic red". First time that I bought powder from Summit but it went on even and flowed out good.

Mostly finished and road the hell out of it over the weekend. All I have left are decals, grab bar, and headlight wiring harness; all in which I still need to purchase. I may fab up my own grab bar; not sure yet. Since this one is mostly done I better start looking for another one.
