does anyone else have problems getting their kids up in the morning? what do you do to help the problem of grumpy children in the morning?

my kids are in bed by 8:30 asleep by 9 and up by 7. no matter what they always seem to wake up grumpy. i remember i was like this but i use to wake up around 5 or so. my mom stayed on me and it paid off. it is now very easy for me to wake up no matter what time it is.

I wake up @ 4:30am...Kids @ 5:30am
They go to bed by 8pm (Except Weekends)

We just always had them doing this, because we both work and commute...so it was never a choice.

Only problem is they wakeup same time on weekends...laughing.gif...there is no sleeping in at my house.

Just a thought - Maybe they're getting too much sleep.

If I get too much sleep I don't want to get up and then lazy at that point.

my mom got so fed up with my brother being such a PITA in the am, she would have him sleep in his clothes he would wear to school the next day...few days of humilitation seemed to do the trick.
Predator Chick
I have noticed that if I try to wake my son up he is grumpy, but if I don't try to wake him and just make enough noise so that he can hear it, he gets out of bed on his own.

My kids were taught the use of an alarm clock really early (age 8). If they didn't get up with it and I was leaving the house and they weren't ready, they went how they were, no questions asked. Missing backpacks, going in PJ's, no breakfast, etc...............didn't last too long. My son still pushes the limits at 15, but he is ready when its time to go.

My 2.5 year old is the opposite. She hates to go to bed and then usually wakes up at 7 am no matter what time she went to bed.

Same with my 1.5 year old. Maybe it's when they get older? I know I didn't have too much trouble, but my brother was ridiculously hard to wake up in the morning (still is).

Usually, if I need him wake up sooner than his usual 6:30-7AM, I either open the blinds if the sun's up (his window faces east) a little bit at a time, or turn the hall light on, then the reading light in his room, then the overhead light to get him to wake up on his own.

If I wake him up, he's an angry little bugger... icon_biggrin.gif

My dad used to wake us up by continually whistling these annoying 2 notes louder and louder. Man, you'd wake up madder than sh*t when he did that!
jchappy
My kids go to bed early 8:30ish and don't want to get up in the morning on school days but on the weekend they got to bed late (late for them is 10) and get up early
I don't get it.....
Me's Toy
I make Cam (18 yr old) use an alarm clock cuz he is impossible to get up. Works 99% of the time. He is a grouch in the morning!!!

Shay (9 yr old) is a happy person in the morning. But she isn't thrilled about getting out of bed. Once she does though she is fine. Her bedtime is 9:00 and she is up at 6:15.

Shay obviously didn't take after me cuz Im a grouch in the morning...I freaking HATE morning!!

Hero
I make my daughter take a nap after school and it's a bear to wake her up, I now wake her up 30 minutes early and then 15, and she's up at 0 non grouchy smile.gif

its crazy how when my kids go to glamis or are in glamis, they will get less sleep but wake up in a good mood and say i want to ride. icon_bouncy.gif same thing if we go to disneyland or somewhere like that.

I agree with using the alarm clock and a schedule. It is working in my home with our 5, 7, and 9 year olds. They are old enough to perform the needed tasks with very little input from you. Hopefully that will free up energy for you to be even more happy and from time to time suprise them with a fancy breakfast on school days or just be in a better mood in general which always affects the mood of the kids. If they do not conform to the written schedule, they go as is.
hope this helps.

I am NOT a morning person...my son is waking me up most days...but he seems to be a sunrise kid...I have always been a night owl. Not so much now... dunno.gif When school starts it ought to be interesting..
