Furley got stung by a bee just now. I got the stinger out but he's still limping around and crying on and off. I'm sure he'll be fine but I just wanted to check with you guys to see if any of you had any experience with dogs and bee stings.
Thanks.

I have heard they can have some of the same reactions that humans have. Keep an eye on his breathing also..... Just watch over him, like I know you are, and keep him comfortable. Run to the Vet if you think something is not right.....

What KT said. My wiener dog got stung on the muzzle once and it swelled up big time. Luckily it didn't affect her breathing. Just had to give her some Benadryl. She sure looked funny all swelled up though

25mg benadryl (one pink pill) per 45lbs of dog weight
make a paste of baking soda and water and put it on the sting site.

my dogs have been stung, but didnt have a reaction, but try like half a benydril or just a bit, maybe call an emergency vet and ask, never can be too safe. I know its a long way from you, but if you just want to call for advise, the emergency vet clinic in Poway on Poway Rd. did wonders for my lab when he slipped a disc in his neck, the chick that runs it was super cool.

He's 7 lb's Danno!
and I gave him about 1/3 of a Benadryl. it's hard to tell because I had to cut it with a razor blade and it broke into several pieces so I guessed. He's stopped crying and now he's just chillin in his doggy bed at my feet. He still limps (it stung him on his inner left rear thigh) I removed the stinger and it isn't swollen that much but it's still hurting him. He'll be alright though. I just got worried when all of a sudden he started crying and limping. I guess he sat on the bee and it stung him.

Thanks guys.

the benadryl will relieve the itch, and probably knock him out for the night. Our dog is really hyper when travelling, so we give her a "pill to chill" and it works well.
Take comfort in knowing that a bee dies when it stings something. Yellow Jackets are a different animal - they'll sting time after time.

Sounds like Mr. Furley will be fine. You're a good daddy, Randy.

he's fine. He's milking it cuz he know's I'm a softy but it's ok, I'll let him. He's an old man and deserves to be pampered every now and again.

my little dog has been stung twice and she is only 4 months old. Srupid dog doesn't learn apparently.

This is what I know from a friend who is a vet. Treat it like you would a human, pull out the stinger. Watch for signs of difficult breathing. If none, you can use baking soda on the bite itself or try Benadryl for the itching. I use Benadryl for my little one and it seems to help.

Randy.....on his inner thigh??
Don't tell me you said "Furly, f---k foot" and he tried it on a bee!!!

(for those that don't know, that's a Furly doggy trick)
Hope he feels better now!

That only works on snake bites JD, depending where the bite is I may let let poison take its course!
