The looney duner
Need a little help getting the right size torsion for the rear of my car. The rear arms are 3x3s or possibly 2x3s not completely sure. car is rear engine (1915) and 2 seats. its the one in my pictures. The torsions are stock right now and the car bottoms out on everything!! I have heard 28mm should work but i would like to hear some more thoughts on this. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Coilovers! I see used ones kinda cheap on here and a few other sights.

I want to do that for the season after next. this coming season im already in over my head. the car is completely stripped to nothing and im building a new engine and painting it and side panels etc. and then i found out i need to have the trans. freshened up too. so coilovers have to wait until next years rebuild.

Had a 2 seat hi jumper chasis 2+2 and with stock it bottomed out too.I went with the cheap china torsions in 26mm it stopped the bottom out but was still a tad stiff and had a good amount of rebound.Still did better than stock though.

New car is a 4 seat bugpack chasis and i use 25mm sway away torsions they are pricier and now i know why they work alot better. IMO 2 seater shouldnt need more than 24 -25mm bars. The 3x3s will put more leverage vs stock trailing arms which is what i had on my old hi jumper new car has stock x1 inch longer arms.Plus your stock ones are probably way worn out too.

I waited a long time to take mine out also. I think I still have them, I'll try to find them and if they are what you need, you can have them. All I can remember is that they were red, I think.

My two seat VW buggy has stock length arms with Sway-Away 25mm diameter long bars and they work perfectly. I would think with 3X3's a bigger bar may be needed.

Sure, just remember I have NO idea what size they are. Does it have it on the end of the bar?
The looney duner
i think so on the end it is stamped 25mm 26mm etc.......... i just went out and measured mine they are the long ones, 26 9/16 inch long.

I have a set I just took out if they will work for you. Sway away rear torsion 26 9/16 length 28mm part# 1228 $120

i have a 2 seater, 3x3 with the long torsions.. i tried a bunch of stuff. the best i had it was with 27mm (chinese) torsions.. never was as good as the coil overs that are on it now..

also depends on how you like it.. the stiff enough for real fast duning without worries for g outs, is too stiff for long stretches of whoops..

If I haddn't gone to CO, i would have bought 27mm sway-a-ways which prolly would have been a bit stiffer, and allowed less pre-load..

I still have the 27mm if you're interested.

I ran 28mm Sway-Away’s with stock trailing arms in a Baja Bug with a full cage. They where perfect for that set up. I think they would be to bit much for a lighter buggy.

Sorry, I think mine will be worthless to you. I just measured them and they are 21 3/4" long. I'm not sure what size they are either, one has an "X" and "8" on one end and the other has "Q" and "10". Might be stock but I dont think so because they are red. Are the stock ones red?

From what I remember those stock long bars were 22 or 23 mm. I think they had two sizes depending on what vehicle they were in. A 24-25 would be all you will need. I would check what preload you have now . Maybe you just need to reset them.

Those work great and an even better price. "BUY THESE" with the ajustable plates. Loney duner, I live in SD and one of my jobs is in Ocotillo Wells if you need them picked up and brought out closer.
