Forced Overtime
Fired up the banshee last night and took it out for a ride in the empty fields behind my house. I was about 20 minutes into the ride when the lights just turned off. Tried switching from low to high beams but still no lights. My first thought was that the switch went bad. It was pretty dark by now so I headed back home trying not to run into a ditch or hitting a berm. So I make it back home, before going into the garage I rev it up real high to clear the carbs and the lights flicker, do it again and they flicker again so I switch from high to low and back to high to low thinking its the switch. Put it in high, rev it up and the lights flicker, put it in low beams , rev it up and the lights flicker............... Any idea what this could be, I was thinking the switch, but would the lights flicker at all if the switch went bad??? Think its the stator???? would the bike even start if the stator went bad???? Time for night rides and I would hate to get stuck at camp because the lights went off.............. Any help would be highly appreciated.............. icon_confused.gif

first things first. check all your connections and make sure they are good. that might be the problem. dont tear apart the bike yet it might be something simple. i have that with my whip light some times. it only works everyonce in a while and i know its cuz there is a short somewhere i need to fix.

it definately sounds like a loose connection. the revving is causing vibrations which in turn is closing the circuit and they flicker. look for pinched wires, bad connections on both male and female ends, and make sure that they are pressed together tightly. last thing is to check the solder in the switch. pretty sure its not a stator prob. dont forget to look inside the light housings too.

Had the lighting circuit cut out on my pops banshee, It ended up being the wireharness where it runs under the seat right next to the pipe on the right side. Anyway, the harness hit the pipe and melted the lighting circuit wire causing it to ground out. So anyway, check for that too.

there are a few things it can be really it could be a wire issue or the even the stator or the voltage regulator grab a test light and start checking

Happened to me once. Was riding hen the lights shut off then came on again a couple times then the bulbs both blew. Figured out it was the regulator wire that had a bad connection. Check that. It should be a blue wire off the harness towards the rear.
