Was thinking about a couple street legal dirt bikes for trail riding and looking for recomendations new or used. Nothing fancy just good enough to get around.
Looking for input.

Suzuki DRZ400, DRZ650
or
Honda XR650L
I'd probably go for the Suzuki DRZ400.

Air down those big ol' tires and get another couple inches of travel!

Not crazy at all. These old bones don't heal like they used to.

You can't go wrong with an XR400 that's had a legal dual sport conversion done on it. They come up for sale quite a bit, and are usually fairly cheap. They can go just about anywhere, and will outlive your great grandchildren if you do just tiny bit of maintenance!!

One of these. The one on the right is for sale. I'm going to put dirt wheels back on it.

DRZ400 or a converted XR400... The XR400 can be found for a steal and is a great trail bike and you can still ride it pretty hard... actually real hard as many have raced it in baja once built up. If moneys no object then go KTM. The TW200 is another sweet ride for trails if thats all you have planned.

yamaha WR450's are great, geared high enough for the street and low enough for the trail

You can't get a WR street legal here in Cali. The few that have been pushed through, the DMV pulls their plates when they notice during a title transfer.

Do you want identical bikes or will there be faster solo missions? Sometimes the more aggressive bikes feel too rigid at slower speeds.

The TW200 is not highway legal... but a fun little bike. I have the WR250X and love it... it has a dirt bike brother, the WR250R. The power will surprise you. The suspension is outstanding and the X does amazing on the highway at 90mph. I'm looking into getting a set of dirt tires and rims for this bike just to putt around on in the desert.

I just looked it up and seems the law has changed... According to WikiAnswers the minimum is 149cc not 249cc. I was under the impression it had to be 250 and above to be on the freeway!
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_mini...fornia_highwaysHere it is in the DMV handbook as well. Wonder when they changed it?
