I've been playing since I was twelve (30 yrs) and John Bonham was way ahead of everyone else when it came to inovation. When famous drummers say that he is their idol, then you know he's great!

He's definitely awesome. And from the looks of things I bet he could play for 48 hours straight with no sleep or food. But that's probably true for most band members.

I think Bonham is winning because people know his name. I gotta say Buddy Rich kicked everyone's AZZ big time. But nobody votes for him because they don't know of him.
I think the spirit of this poll was "who is the best" not who is most well known.

Josh Freeze. He's got more gold and platinum records than the rest of the list combined.

There are only two types of rock drummers in the world there are the Keith Moons and the Jonh Bonhams. Keith wasn't on the list.
Would love to jam with Dave Grohl though the guy is just pure energy and when I was looking for drummers in the bands I was in thats the type I allways liked jamming with. The Neil Peart types that could play amazing things on a million drums allways wanted to over play everything but the John Bonham types would play fat thick beats that made you think and they looked like they could be eating a chease burger while they did it.

yeah, i cant believe d. carey wasnt on the list, probably one of the most melodic drummers out there. even if you dont like tool, go to one of their shows just to watch him... your jaw will be on hthe floor!
If you havent seen this video, check it out. Its the the drummer and singer from godsmack doing a drum battle. Probably the coolest few minutes on youtube. Watch the whole thing, it doesnt really get going until a few minutes in:

Exactly, they could fill minutes of silence with music and the silence that was there was music in and of itself and yet you knew it was building, breathing, waiting to be unleashed. Hope that made sense to you guys.

I''ve been playing for 21 years, and while these are all GREAT drummers, I don't see the likes of Dave Weckel, terry Bozzio, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, Jason Bittner, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, Joey Jordison,
Chad Smith, Mike Poutrnoy Tony Royster Jr. and so many others that have and still continue to innovate.
Dennis Chambers link>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ues2RBpXQoI...feature=related
He takes them all to school around the 4 min mark when he plays 4 different rythems at the same time. Each on a seperate limb.
