My Onan 5500 died on me last trip and I have not been able to look at it.
It started then died and make a horrible clunk/bang noise, one I have never heard. When you try to restart it makes similar noises.
If I get time this weekend I will take the valve cover off and have a look but I have a feeling this would be best left to the pro's.
Anyone in SD (East County) do mobile generator repairs?
Figured I'd check here before calling a shop. Cash or trade for services.

I know you are looking for someone on the board to knock it out for you, but if you don't have any luck with that, you might give Quality Rv a call.

Holy shizz nit, you're right! I just checked my invoice from '08 when they replaced my carb and labor was $148.50 for 1.5 hrs labor. They do good work though.

Mine made banging and awful noises 2 months back and it scared the crap out of me. I put 5 gallons of gas in the tank and it fixed the problem. I have not let the tank get as low as it was when the noises accrued. I hope yours will be that easy to fix.

Mike , let me know if you find somebody, maybe we can tag team him on a deal or if he's far, make it worth his time.
On the last trip out mine cranked reallly slow, saw some smoke, tried again, nothing.... Now it just clicks 1/16 of a crank.

That's the one.
I went there 6 months ago to buy a filter and oil. 3 eople sitting behind the counter said "the guy who sells Onan parts is not here". Guess those 3 weren't trained to sell Onan brand name parts

I went elsewhere.
Minor thing but thought it was amusing.

For what it's worth, I found that Webb's Rv in Lakeside sells Onan oil and Onan filters cheaper than Quality.
