sanddunesaddict
are you loaded in that pic??
It sure looks like the truck is squatting alot.
Dune Marshall
Congrats !
Very nice set up !
Merriman®
How do you like it? I was looking at them and new Dodge. Dodge has some really good deals right now.
Morgan
Why did they drop the 19.5 wheels?
done-it-again
They sure look good. Was at Citrus Ford looking at one while my 08' 450 was getting service. Let us know some feedback especially the fuel mileage. The 2 things I hate about the 6.4's. Gas mileage and the damn turbo lag. Do not know how many times I step on the gas and it does not move for about 2 seconds (its like a throttle delay). Drives me nuts. But the dealer says nothing is wrong.
NEVERENOUGH
That is a sick setup for sure. I have heard some great things about the new fords only time will tell.

The trailer was empty in that picture. The truck had squated about three inches. After looking at it the Ford/Reese hitch had another adjustment. Once the fifth wheel plate was raised it was level.
mikebob
I'm not sure about the 19.5" wheels, when I ordered the truck back in Early Feb. there was a provision to order the truck with the 19.5" wheels and the Hankook all terrains, so I ordered the truck with that option. It was about the first week in March and my dealer indicated to me that I was now getting the 17" BFG Rugged Trail tires.

I was on the Ford-Truck forum and Chris Brewer (Ford Super Duty Program Manager) had indicated it was not a popular option and that past customers complained about the replacement costs and availiablity of the 19.5" tires.

The more I think about it I believe that the 17" tires will air down better than the 19.5" tires.

different rear axle now. think they are running a dana 80 now, instead of the dana 110? (correct me if i am wrong) dana 110 still available, but the regular 450's sold as an every day truck get the 80, while the commercial (work trucks f-550) get the 110.

again, somebody correct me if i am wrong.

if i remember right, it's all part of the 600 pound diet ford put the f-450 on.

That's a really great set-up thumb.gif

Gettin' new stuff is cool.

I think I'd rather keep the 19.5's like my '08 has.
lincster
I would rather have th 19.5's also, but Ford decided to go to the same tire that is on the F350. Bummer on the rear axles also.
YFZ909
This is the exact set up I am going to be going with. Very nice.
mikebob
Mine has the 110 I think the higher GVW packages get the 110 with 4:30 gears. The cab and chassis get the 4.88 however different turbo and de-tuned about 15%.
gordon
Saw them the the other day also tire size i can understand they say there only good to 80mph 19.5 but the axle thing looks way small. How is that gas mileage in it
mikebob
Empty 17.8 MPG I only have about 1200 miles on the truck. On another forum I hear 10-13 towing fifth wheels and gooseneck horse trailers.

Way better than the 6.4L Powerstrokes, that's for sure. That according to the overhead display, or hand calculated?

BTW, how much was registration on that beast? icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah saychz316 your right, their not putting the S110 rear ends in the 2011's anymore. From what i heard it was over kill on them. I have a 2008 F450 with the S110 488 gearing, it is way over geared if you ask me, which forced me to add the Gear Vendor to my truck which gave me the best of both worlds now.

Look at the rear dif cover if it is all welded up to where you couldn't remove it, it is a S110, also it is huge. If you are able to remove it and replace the rear dif cover, then you have the new smaller one....

The Gear Vendor is worth every penny, but very expensive! 4K to be exact. I got it done at Unitrax in Anaheim, www.gounitrax.com .

I have a P.P.E. programmer www.pacificp.com on it with banks exhaust, and intake.
On the freeway I like to drive or tow about 70-80mph, at 80 mph gear vendor off rpms are about 3000, 80mph gear vendor on rpms are about 2100. Huge difference!

The Spartan tunes will fix the 6.4 lag right away. My 08 with the 210 builds boost yesterday. And they have great tranny tuning as well.

It's to bad they took out the big rear end and did away with the 19.5s. They basically just turned it into the F350.

you are correct the 4.88 with the higher torque not the de-tuned was BREAKING the Gear Set so during build option #3 in 2009 they cancilled the 4.88
I never understood why they didn't just put the 4.10 gear set and allow the computer to control the gear 5th or 6th especially since the new 6 speed trans split the difference between 4th and 5th then again 5th to 6th I think the truck will be able to hold 5th gear during heavy towing.

I've been looking into the spartan tune, but just do not want to get caught running without the dpf/cat. I have heard of chp doing checks to wards Sacramento. Not that I drive there, but they can start doing it anywhere. Also my trailer is 15k-18k lbs and from what I've read that can cause some problems. But I have not talked to Spartan about my concerns. I just got the truck out of the shop for tire rotation (not to many places rotate 19.5's) and my concerns on turbo lag, but dealer says she running fine.

Yeah, no more 19.5 wheels. Just another way Ford tried to better the fuel milege. From what I hear is the 2011 450 are basicly like the towboss 350. I also hear that fuel milege is awesome with these trucks.

Jayrock, what's your fuel milege with the gearvendor? I got the same truck and gears. Was just thinking on getting bigger tires for it to get the mpg's up.

Nice looking truck!!

ntenufsun,

I would i say i gained 2-3 miles per gallon. You said you have the same setup as mine, so you know at 75-80mph the motor is just revving way too high for me at about 2800-3000 rpms. I tell you, if I didn’t go with the Gear Vendor, my next option would have been to rear gear the truck front & rear to 410’s, because I tow about a 17-18k lb 5th wheel, and use the gear vendor about 80% of the time while towing! So that tells me I could of geared it down to 410’s no problem and probably for a lot less money than the Gear Vendor, unless you tow real heavy trailers up big grades all the time.

done-it-rite,

I just ordered the Sparton Tuner & DPF delete kit for my truck, they said by those two things alone I should increase to about 3-5 miles per gallon depending on driving conditions, deleting the DPF having the most to do with it. I believe this, because about two years ago we put a straight pipe system on my boys 2008 6.4 removing the DPF & the Cat, and what a HUGE difference it made on the miles per gallon gain & performance! The only problem was the programmer didn’t always tell the computer that it was still there, so it always threw codes. However, with this Sparton, they are saying it does all that & is undetectable when you remove it to the dealers. I got no choice but to try it out and see.

Also, Morgan stated on here that it removed a lot of the turbo lag, and he has had no problems with his.

I’ll keep you guy’s posted after i install it, and do some Havasu runs with it!!

I would not do any tune without doing the DPF delete. All it does is make the truck go into regen faster because of the dirtier tunes. Let me make an analogy...Go run around the block with a straw in your mouth and then you will know how the truck feels with a DPF on it. No to mention the 6.4 goes into regen WAY more often than the 07.5+ LMM or 6.7. I tow more then you do on a daily basis and do not have tranny or EGT issues with the Spartan 210 tune. Normal EGTs are about 8-900 on flat, and 1100-1200 on a grade at between 70-75 MPH.

The Spartan is traceable, just have to have the right scanner. The only thing I do not like about the Spartan is it takes half an hour to save the stock tune, and half an hour to download a Spartan Tune. Not very easily switchable. I get about 19-20 empty and 12-14 loaded with the 210 tune and 4.30s. With the 4.30s the 6.4 trucks like to pull just a touch more RPM then a normal diesel would.

Hey Morgan I'll hit you up on the test drive if thats cool. I am in OC and also have an '08 F450 was thinkin about the Tuner & DPF delete sraptor.gif

Jayrock offered up the test drive. He has the gear vendor unit on his, that (I think) gives him 3 extra gears.

Sorry for the hijacked thread. 25biggrinangela.gif

Sandseeker4life, the offer stands for you as well, however, i don't have the Saprton on it yet, just the PPE chip, exhaust, and intake with the Gear Vendor....

Thanks for the info. Do you have the dpf/cat delete? or just the dpf? I like the mileage your claiming. Is this the 210 "tow tune" you are driving in?

It's an OG Spartan 210 tune. I have had it in there for about 75k miles. I just have the DPF delete pipe. My Duramax is straight piped, and I think that is the way to go. We have another '10 6.4 that has a 5" straight pipe ready to go on it along with a slew of other things my '08 does not have.

My neighbor and 1 of my buddies I go to the dunes with brought home last night a 2011 F-450 F X 4 King Ranch, Diesel, Dually, got it from Galpin truck center over the phone and had it delivered to SanDiego. All White with gold on bottom. 69K OTD. Its going to pull a very large horse trailer goose neck. You might remember us with this pull toy out at the Glamis Trap Shoot. Its a International CXT 4X4
