I was camping out at lake Roosevelt (east of Phoenix) this weekend and saw a large Tarantula Hawk Wasp and was lucky enough to see it in action. They sting a Tarantula, drag it to a pre-made nest (Which was under this big bush) and lay a single egg on its body. The egg hatches and feeds on the tarantula while it is still alive. Pretty gruesome but hey...I didnt write the rules!

I got there too late for that. I saw the wasp and knew what kind it was, then I looked about 5 feet from it and saw the tarantula she had already stung

Thanks for posting, I learn something new everyday. I love nature but sometimes it is so cruel. On a side note, Mellen do you ever go to Saguaro lake?

Yeah we do Saguaro every once and a while.....mostly just to switch things up but we really dont like that lake too much. Its so crowded/choppy most of the time. The sandy beach in the back is fun though. Heres my doing my typical wakeboarding at saguaro! haha....my binding broke as soon as I hit the wake!!!

Mellen, if you ever do Saguaro lake on a Monday or Tuesday hit me up. I will not go to that lake on the weekend or holidays. I find Tuesday's are the best for the least amount of people. I bought another jet ski last weekend, makes 3 I have here.
