Here is some pics of my 125 install. Getting the engine all sorted in the '84 until I finish the '78 frame off. Its getting a 2 inch stretch and some fresh paint, bearings and brake shoes.... When its done the 125 will go in it and then the '84 will go back to standard 70cc power.
I did the normal grind the side cover and machine the flywheel dance, but opted to drill and tap holes to mount the pull start cage, rather than welding it on. I also took a little off the end of the crank thread to give me a little more clearance for the pull starter. Just need to make the spacer now.
Pics.....enjoy.

very nice pics!

I have to do the same to my lifan whenever it gets here. I sold out thought and bought the dratv spacer though as I don't have a waterjet or CNC setup.

Did you just use a mill or lathe to shave down the lifan flywheel to the correct circumference to fit the stock cage?

Thanks,

Jason
KASEY
so if you had a late style pullstarter you wouldn't have to make a spacer,,

I am lucky enough to have a well equipped workshop right next door to my house, in my neighbours shed. tongue.gif
We used a lathe to turn down the centre of the flywheel, checking for size every so often to get a snug fit. Then we just centre punched the holes for the cage (pics 5 &6) and drilled and tapped them. 5mm hole for a 6mm thread, easy. There is still more than enough of the rivets holding the whole show together. I could have machined it less and taken out some of the centre of the cage but I wanted to be able to use a stock cage if/when I need to replace it.
And yeah Kasey, the pull-starter in the photo is off the '78 and is narrower than the one on the '84, but I need the other 70 engine running for my son to ride and dont have another late model pull-starter...so I have to make a spacer icon_cry.gif Dont spose you could email me a spare pull-starter???....... laughing.gif

Made the pull start spacer today and got her running. Goes well, I'm really happy. Twist throttle bites though, gonna fit the thumb throttle back on. Ordering a 22mm carb for it, oh, and new brake shoes too! You don't realise how crap your brakes are 'till you have about triple the stock horse power...lol
Mardy
Well I ordered a 22mm mikuni carb for the 125, and the sent me a 25mm mikuni by mistake...oh well, looks a bit too big... lets put it on anyway!!!
It went straight on to the manifold, which has a 25mm inside diameter, so it matches nicely but didnt quite clear the cooling fins on the top of the engine. Hello mister angle grinder! Shaved the corner off 3 fins and it fits like a glove. It misses the tank and frame and the throttle cable has heaps of room. All good.
Well, now the verdict. Holy crap did it make a difference! Heaps more mid range power and more revs in the top end as well. I love it more now. Fitted some axle spacers to her as well for a bit more stability. Now I just have to paint the side cover and the pullstarter black. tongue.gif

Nasty little thing spat me off the other day......3rd gear wheelies are fun, until you flip it and run your self over!! Gave me a nice bite on the leg for my troubles...lol

The little buggers can bite, was doin some circles on as some mates were leaving the other day and mine tossed me off the back then landed on me, much to everyones amusement
Mardy
Ha ha, nobody saw me fall off......this time.

Well the engine is coming back out now. Had some fun on it for a month and its now returning to stock 70cc power.
The engine is going back into the pit bike frame it came out of, and with a quad rear end and the front triples from MuckUte I will have a suspended 125 'pit trike'. New build thread soon.....
