Igot this today and thought how true, this is just the last part of it
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.
He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?''
The Six-year-old continued,''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

How beautiful - Thank you for sharing.
Every year there is a blessing of the animals event downtown, and I always take my dogs. During the last blessing one saying stood out, "Dogs can teach us things we wouldn't listen to or learn from another person" Aint that the truth!

Look around for one Esco Lady. Usually catholic churches hold one in honor of St. Francis during the fall. There are also others. Originally the one here was held by the Catholic church, but has since gone a little more non-denominational. I first went to one because I had a dog Bubba, RIP, that was getting very sick. I figured a little faith, and a blessing wouldn't hurt, I remember telling Tony we had to make sure when the Father sprinkled the Holy Water to hold Bubba up high so he would get some. I remember rubbing Bubba on my other dog, and the cat when we got home so everyone got a little holy water

Some may call it superstitious, but I believe in the power of prayer and faith, and certainly wasn't gonna hurt him!
He stuck around for one more blessing, I was so thankful, I hadn't expected him to still be around a year later. The last one I went to was the first one without Bubba. Oh dear, I did my best to hold it together but I was sniffling and hugging my other 2 dogs so close the entire time. It means a lot to me, take some time out to really recognize the power and effect our pets have in our lives, and to remember loved ones that have passed.

So sorry you both are going through this. If I lived near you I'd be dropping off cookies, pies, something anything! Just when you think you are starting to maybe get through the day, then you get the ashes. I made the mistake of driving myself to the vet to pick up Bubba's ashes. I balled like a baby in the car, then tried to hold together long enough to get home then balled some more before I made it there. BUT I am thankful I did receive his ashes. Wouldn't feel right unless I knew his final resting place.
RIP in Lacey. My thoughts are with you both!

Sorry Rubs

it's not easy but we had 16 wonderful years with our Big Girl Miss Lacey and I hold on to that. I still miss her.
