Is it possible, and if so, how hard is it,to get an out of state, untitled, antique car to be rebuilt and made street legal in Ca?? Is it possible or am I pipe dreaming.. I found a relic in an old barn in the mid-west for a steal, if it is possible.. Anybody with REAL experience in the matter?? Not just, I heard a buddy say...

Probably not the same as Ca... as I think you guys can make sand-rails street legal.. tongue.gif Thanks anyway.. anyone in CA????
rudster
its actually veru easy.you need to make sure the car has unaltered vins, you need to get a bill of sale if possible notirized and you are done.go to dmv then chp or believe it or not AAA.

if you have a vin and it is pre smog you are off to a good start.
Mongo

a 65 vw notchback.. I want to do a street legal pre-runner that is streetable, dunable and able to run dirt as well.. the notchback has way more back seat room than a bug. I have a stroked ls1 already waiting for it.

Gandparents down in ocotillo wells have one sitting in the back of there property, thought about doing the same thing. Kids broke out all the windows a few years back. Not sure if its the same year. How good is the one back east?

In AZ you could go bonded title for $100 usually.
Did a 71 firebird sitting 15+ years from CA last year for $100 on bond

My son bought a Fastback with a mechanics lean on it for many years. After he bought it he went thru a company in Alabama. After he got the AL title, he had a police type person come out to verify the numbers and got an AZ title. The company in AL did all the background check on the car, and charged about $100, I think. That was about 10 years or so ago. Google is your friend.

I hope you get this done easily, I know it can be done, just to what extreme are they gonna pull on your go-nads to get it done. Good Luck

Still working on finding the suitable starter project.. I have been looking @ doing a "thing" pre-runner instead now,,october issue of "off-Road" did it for me.... Since it already has 4 doors... Does anybody know if a vehicle is plated, do you still need the green sticker??.. Like out @ Glamis, if I was running a something like a way modified thing, and I had plates... would I still need a green sticker?? If I do , it would determine what I buy,b/c I don't want to step foot in the DMV once I start.. better to ask forgiveness than permission...Just askin.. What say ye?
greyhd
If your plated you don't need to a green sticker, it's one or the other.

I brought the paperwork back from the dead on my 1969 baja. The car must be complete with engine, it does not need to run. Take it to DMV, they will run the VIN from the car and engine, go pay fees and wait for the plates to come in the mail.

As long the vehicle stays street legal you do not need dual registration. If you have a dual sport bike and you remove the street legal required equipment, you need dual registration..

tonyd
all you need are plates.also so you dont have to buy a season pass for it,go to sweet maries and get a free "trailered in pass".otherwise they rangers will ticket you because in can be driven on the street.just dont get caught on the road.

I recently sold my Manx that was plated. I did not need a green sticker and never had a problem with Ranger Rick at Pismo.
