Trying to figure out the best way to show movies at night outside of the trailer. We have been doing the sheet off the back of the trailer with a projector off a lap top. I want to here your ideas on a better set up, what have you guys been doing ?
I have found one of those blow up 12 ' screens at walmart for 195.00 . They look cool. But I was worried about the fan noise ? They also have a 120 " screen with a metal frame. No fan noise but a little smaller.
What is a good projector with out breaking the bank ?
We are going to use a honda 2000 genarator with a 100 foot cord to keep it quiet and to power the stereo and dvd player.
Thanks looking forward to see what you guys have been doing !

IMHO, the sheet is the best, cheap way. I do that as well...bed sheet, projector combo. I just have to figure out a way to get the audio out of the factory WW speakers.

We play movies on the side of our motorhome. Its white...no decals. Its awesome!

My buddy hangs the screen (kind of like a cloth tarp) off of his awning. Seems to work pretty well.

I can give you soeme idea but need more info?

Does your TH sound system have an AUX or Ipod input?
If you don't know look at the stero head unit and/or amp.

What audio device are you using with your projector? What type of connection does the Audio OUT have, RCA, 1/4 or 1/8 mini jack, etx?

Do you whan to run a hard wire extension or use a wireless transmitter

We have run ours threw the Ipod input on the front of the head unit.. But we are wanting more of a home theater sound now and are going threw a amp and to home speakers . I have found a 10 foot screen with poles from camp chef that may work better then the blow up screen from wal mart. I was afraid it may get a hole and dont have to worry about the fans running.

I have the Sony X plode/MTX 2000W system WW put in there. I havent taken out the stereo unit to see if I can run a normal aux jack of if there is audio inputs. I run right now a laptop with 2 terra external, comp 11 piece speaker system and a NEC 720p projector. It has all sorts of inputs.

Damn you guys. I was happy with the TV inside, but now you guys have me too interested.

I think I might buy one of the cheaper surround systems (or upgrade my home one, yes!) and make some speaker mounts I can drive into the sand so the sound is a little closer than the screen (less noise to bother nearby camps/people sleeping in camp). Probably shine it on one of our camp buddy's enclosed or hang a screen from the awning and tie it down to the ground to keep the rippling down.

What do you guys do to keep the screen from moving around too much?

Here are pictures of the 12 foot blow up screen and the 120" screen with poles. The 12 foot is big but I was worried about poking a hole in it . The screen with the ploes doesn't need power ether. What do you think ? Have any of you tried one yet or will I be the first .
bigjohnt
Here is the 120 " with poles and no need for power .

I'd do the one with poles. If that screen is anywhere near as "lucky" as camp chairs, it'll have firefly holes in it the first time you blow it up.

Might need to tie it down to some spare wheels or weights though, I don't think the stakes would stay in the ground very well...

I have some portable 110v BOSE speakers that I use with our projector. Put out pretty good sound and you can hook them up to your laptop through the headphone jack.

and as far as the screen, well I have a 38' trailer w/o decals so its a large movie screen. laughing.gif

Ya I guess your right .When I think what our camp chairs look like, that thing wouldn't stand a chance. So 10 ft screen with poles it is .
We have a older home system with speakers that should work I think . I haven't seen anything better yet .

I use a 15' x 15' canvas painters tarp and a PVC frame that I made from 2" PVC. I took the tarp and folded the top and bottom edges back about 4" and stapled them to the tarp with the staples about 4" apart (Probably better if it was sewn). Opened up the pocket that I made and inserted the 2" PVC pipe through the top and bottom. Made a square frame around the tarp that measures around 15' wide by 14' tall with 2" PVC fittings using Tees on the bottom. Added a 3' extension from the bottom of the tarp frame that is connected to a square base frame that sits flush with the ground. That frame measures around 8' by 15' wide. Installed (2) 3/16" eye bolts on each side of the tarp frame approximately 2' down from the top and tied clothes line cord to each one down to some tent stakes for stability.

It took approximately an hour to make and the cost was about $150 for the tarp, PVC pipe, fittings, cord and stakes. Takes about 30 Min. to set up when your sober, much longer when your intoxicated. It works great for either front or rear projection. It stands 17' tall and 15' wide, I've used it at the Desert, The Thunder boats and Phoenix Raceway. The only time you can't use it is when it's windy...

Great link!

I like this idea the most with blackout cloth, since it's not transparent (obviously for front projection). Just run some 1x2 through it, hang it from your trailer, and use bungees on the bottom corners if you've got some wind issues. Cheap too:

Not as big as some of the ones you guys are doing, but plenty big for our camp (20 people, tops).

I open the back, turn the TV around, and run it through a home theater system smile.gif Only 46" vice 12' though laughing.gif

White shower curtains work better than a sheet... at least thats what my buddy uses. Says he started with the sheet and the curtain gives a better pic.

i use a piece of 1/8" hardboard, the painted white kind. made a frame out of 1x2 and the screen is 5'4"x4' or 80" diagonal, big enough and keeps the pic bright. doesn't get blown around either. found a good used infocus projector on ebay for 110$, only 4/3 but works great. run it all through a good boombox, the kids love it! use a good battery and a converter to power it up, no noise from gen.
