So I took my tranny in to have it serviced last week. When I purchased the car the original owner said it was a mendeola 2d and on the side casing it says mendeola MD4S 2D. I get a call today from the tranny guy and he is telling me that I have the econo box even tho it says MD4S2D on the casing?

Does the 4e and 2d have the same outside casing? Or maybe I have a 2d case with 4e internals?? Anyone with some insight please let me hear what you think.

thanks

Same Main case for either trans. The center section and rear nose cones are different for a 2D vs E

Externally both the 2D and E cases appear identical. Internally the late 2D uses a larger diameter roller bearing in the mainshaft, so you cannot install E gearsets in it. Conversion of the E box to a 2D means changing not only all the gearsets but ring/pinion as well & machining the case for the bigger bearing...expensive, but one option if it's a V8 car and you're gonna keep it. Or, patch it for cheap and drive carefully..hope this helps. Jeff Field
