Just buy a 7 mill cheatah pv duner banshee. Soft ride, ungodly fast, and sexy. blah on hondas......

I hope you weren't refering to me morgan... got mad props for that 450 but my banshee aint no joke either...
On a serious note... get what you like. Both/ all bikes have possibilities. Any modified bike will have issues somewhere and all bikes can be made to be competitive. If speed is where its at get a banshee and build it right. I dont even run my bike all out most of the time. All that matters is your wheel is in front of theres.
The new 4 strokes arent cheap to build right or cheap to maintain right after being built if you dont work in the shop that built it. Normal 2 stroke build and rebuild is alot cheaper than a built 4 stroke.
Simple mods thou gotta give it to the 4 strokes... for the first $1000 invested hard to beat a new bike with a old bike. When you step over that "duner" threshold I'd take 2 strokes all day over a 4 stroke. Just my 2 cents on it.
Get the bike you like and enjoy it. Everyone has a opinion but you are the one that is gonna ride it.
I have always thought about building a similar build as yours. out of curiosity what do think you have into your build, engine, carbs, pipes ect... not the bike just the engine?

I currently building a 421 Cheetah ported by K&T I have 2400 in cylinders, 800 in crank and 500 in porting. 550 in shearer inframes, and 400 in 35 Keihins

about the same... lockup and straightcuts = 1k, new cases for tunnel porting 500k, case mods 500, billet crank 800.... still use the pv's arent blocked off. I run bigger carbs and pipes... cut pistons some lil tricks too. Was like 5k all together i would say. Like i said I dont normally run all out unless i have a bad run or I need too. Good run is normally 6-8 faster up most hills then a fast 4 mill cub. It will run with sub 14mills on the flats and pull on 10mills even with the lil 6 inch arm on the back and no over ride. Then dune and race the hills at night. Just a different breed I guess.
To me its so much smoother than a built 4 stroke. PV's tame the hit kinda.. untill it is really wicked up then hold on. I usually short shift it but sometimes I shift too fast and it will tame out on the top if not wicked up enought for the pvs to stay open so when i run it out in 4th it plain halls the mail into 6th... run even with 100mph rails on the flats. I've run a couple of equally built 4mills and honestly I had them covered by a couple but the 4mil is alot cheaper to build cause of the crank and case mods needed for the 7mil.... sorry for the novel.....

I wish... normal crew too busy drinking to take picts.. and hard to film myself.

hopefully this fall season much better than last. I'd love to borrow a helmet cam and shoot some on it. Or show for someone to tape... show off at heart

. Hopefully refreshening up this summer after 3 seasons on the top end. Gonna replace the flywheel crankend that is fubar'd thanks to my 8 ricky stator shortouts and welding to my crankshaft.
sorry for the highjacked post..... might make another... thinking about pc the frame and need a color.. thinkin dark metalic silver or black...

how heavily are you gonna mod it?
Dollar for dollar you can't beat the LTR450!! On a Honda with about $800 in a pipe/cam/intake you still can't outperform the Zuki! Revalve the shocks, spend $20 on a cherry bomb and you have a hell of a machine in stock form.

I don't plan on adding much to what I purchase, so I'm looking for something that already has suspension and motor work, tires and good lights. I've seen the LTRs out there, the reliability is in question for me. I'd rather stick with Honda, they seem bulletproof, so long as you install the cam properly

That was a sad day... Maybe I should just look for a 2 stroke, no cam

Yep, hondas never break..
+1 on the LTR many people have absolutely NO problems with them, they're great bikes.
But really get whatever you can afford that floats your boat. The 450's are a lot easier/less tiring to ride. But the two strokes are way more exciting IMHO
2s =simple and more exciting
4s =easier to own & ride IMHO
Solution = own both

Hey Morgan who is building up the Sphynx for you?
I build all my own motors. Going to start off kind of mild with it so I know for future reference on the next ones. Want to make an outline and only change one thing at a time. Going to start with the 78x76 cylinder, 76 crank with YZ490 rod, CR ignition, VForce 3, 40.5 Pro Series, TRX 11 centermount.

No not you. I had actually forgotten about racing you at Patton. My bike was a stockbore at that time, and your bike runs well.

Hey goon, you ridden one that's set up right?? I've ridden all the Jap 450's and I prefer the LTR, just feels better. To me they all feel kinda soft power wise. The yfz has a nice top end hit but they are all about the same, to me 2~3 horse here or there doesn't make any bike superior. They all can run well if modded correctly.

suspension is nice ill give you that just imo the power is lacking exp once u start to mod past a pipe and intake. the two ive road were setup right from what i hear(one bolt ons only and one with a bb and headwork).
also i think there is a reason why you never see anyone racing say fsa and doing well with one (atleast from what ive seen).

Just sold my 06 450r with pipe/cam and all other bolt on crap.
Just picked up an LTR with Dasa/PCIII and intake and is a beast compared to my Honda power wise! Pretty much all the 450's you can't go wrong with. Just buy whatever floats your boat. Or be like me and try them all!

There is a clean big bore R in the for sale section (search my posts). I had the same motor for many years. They are very reliable, tons of low end grunt and good top end.
It's in Nor Cal right now but delivery can be arranged. I personally know the history of that bike and it was built right and well taken care of. Plus it comes with a separate top end plus lots of other misc parts.
