My sister is looking for a toy-hauler and they are only going to haul 2 quads, one being a suzuki 400 and a kids quad, what is the largest trailer someone has towed with a chevy avalanche 4x4, also will be using air bags and a weigh distribution hitch.

A guy camped in our group once with an avalanch towing a 16'er...he said it towed
it fine. What's the weight rating? Probably around 7k lbs?

I was not sure i was kind of thinking the same thing that a fs2300 would be the best size, but they are in higher demand than the rest, they are dead set on a front bedroom model.

thats too much trailer for a half ton truck.

you dont want to be more than 7-8k with a nice hitch and airbags. 10k plus trailers are just a plain no no on half ton trucks.

I have a 03 silverado SS awd and towed a 21ft toy hauler and I tell you it was not fun. Truck was all over the place. With air bags it might be a little different. Dont go larger then 21ft.

my cousin has a 05 f150 4x4 4-foot bed and hauls a 24 foot stealth easy as pie, the avalanche is about the same size but has coils in the rear, not a big fan of coil springs.
EDD
Before i had my f250 i used to tow a 19ft keystone tail-gator with my 04 seqioa and it did fine, my seqioa had the 4.7 iforce v8,with coils in the back , no air bags, just the stabalizer hicth and thats it, but just like ces63ss dont go more than a 21 footer

I tow a 27 foot travle trailer with my quad in the bed. the question is what year and model? mine is a 2500 hd and the newer ones are all half tons have a much less tow rating. so ther is more blankes to fill in befor your question can be answered properly.

I can find out the year but, i think it is a half-ton, I think they will stick with finding a fs2300 weekend warrior.

Start looking for a Transmission shop while your at it. A FS2300 is right at 7K loaded while the truck will tow it it's not going to like it. Something will break and more than likely it will be the Transmission.

Towing it is the easy part, Stoping it going to be your problem
The bigger it is the heavier it is and the harder it is going to be to stop it.
Dungbeetle06
PM me the VIN of the truck (I just need the last 8 digits) and I can send you the weight ratings, Or at least tll me the year and What "G" code is on the option code list.....I.E. "GT4" is a 3.73 ratio.......The guys here can give you a good idea of what it will tow, if you want exact numbers let me know.......

a guy I know towed an fs2600 with a lifted and regeared tahoe, 2004, that had tow cap of 7400 lbs.....towed it for 3 years before he got his diesel...his wife drives it now...has over 100k on it
UTV Mayhem
i tow a 20 foot attitude with a 1500 ram and it hates hills and stopping. flat towing is no prob but the tranny hates it!

I just looked at the weitht for the ww21 and ww23, they are alomost the same weight, the difference is less than my weight. blink.gif

I just looked at the trailer weight, the fs 2300 is 5310lbs and the fs2500 is 5545lbs and i dont think they will load up 4000 lbs of payload.

What your guys thought?

That is no awning, Fuel station or gas, Gen-set, Roof mounted AC, Roof Ladder or stabilizer jacks or anyother add on's. Next you add propane, Water Clothes Sleeping stuff, Camp chairs, BBQ grill food, pots and pans. Before you know it your sitting closer to 7K than you think. I have not rolled mine across the scales yet but another member has and said he was right at 7Klbs.......

If it is not the 2500 then be VERY careful. I had a 1500 for 5 years the only towing i did was moving my 20ft aztex box trailer back and forth from storage to the house so i could hook it up to the MOHO. With all the toys it was about 6,000lbs and felt like 15,000 lbs.

IMO i would not tow any TT without a 2500

I did love my Avalanche though

I tow a 20 ft carson that weighs about 7K, with an F150 V8 5.4 that has a weight rating of 8700 lbs. It tows pretty good, but I definately wouldnt add any more weight to it...

I agree with EDD , what they need is a 21 foot keystone tailgator fully loaded with all the options.......I think 04's preferably...........HMMMMMMMM I wonder where they can find one. sraptor.gif

i towed a 22ft front bath warrior with my old 1500 silverado for a lil over a year. it did fine, the trans did go south but it was caused by an o-ring that seperated, otherwise mechanically fine. it had the 5.3L with 3.73 gears in the rear so id say that if the avalance has that engine and trans, itll be fine with a 20-23 ft hauler, better if its a 'light' style hauler. make sure to tow in 'tow/haul' mode as well as the trans in 3rd gear. if towed in OD, itll overheat the trans
Rockwood
Might want to switch to LT tires if it's a 1/2 ton, which will help with some of the sway.

Personally, I wouldn't go over 21'.
