There are Zero brakes now.. The fluid is still full. I was told the pads are shot, almost nothing there.. And I found the upper chain roller is gone. I dont know if I should order more than just pads as I've never done a brake job before, wheeee more new first's for me (blah) I also have a bent bolt so that's something else to replace...

Just replace the pads, they should come back after that. Only about $20 anyhow, and only takes a few minutes to replace.

Don't need springs unless the muffler bearing goes out. But I am sure you have beed oiling that up so your good. As far as the bent bolt we would need pics to further evaluate.

There should be 2, 12mm bolts that holt the caliper on... dont mess with the bolt with the locknut on it that holds the cable for your parking break on. Pry the pads away from the disk to gain room so the new pads will slide over the disk. Someone should have a pdf of the process from the manual on here steph. Really is a piece of cake..... DONT GET METALIC PADS ! ! !! ! They will just squeal and squeak.

but I set my parking brake when it's loaded in the trailer, and when i've got it in the truck for transportation

So do i just order the bolt and pads???
Sqwrly1
Jun 21 2010, 01:41 PM
It adjusts the play in the caliper if you leave it on. You can set it to preload the brake if that makes sense/ take the travel out of it.
Steph those pads dont look that bad either. On that pict you can see the bolt just under the hose to take lose to get the caliper off and in the 2nd pict it shows the other bolt that holds the other side of the caliper bracket.

this is a bad angle because you cant see the outer side of the pad. if there is no pad at the bottom, then the rotor is bent and you have prematurely worn the pads. As for the bolt in the back for the emergency brake, could be the reason for no rear brakes. its an adjustment. I have my old e-brake setup junk in a box. I can send it your way. scat do you run a skid plate?
GWTT
Jun 21 2010, 05:37 PM
here is an exploded version of your rear brake. There are a few adjustments required. your piston could be frozen. . . could be alot of things going on here. oh, as far as putting it in the trailer for storage, we use zip tie's on the front brake lever and also in gear. paddles dont roll around to much remember.

After The Fog rebuilt my baby she's running top speed again (hence why I really need my brakes so I don't run the leader over, maybe I should start taking lead over hahahahah). I know I need to get the top roller chain thingy, it's simply a couple washers now (replaced it last time I changed my chain so I am scratching my head on how it disinigrated)

Click to view attachmentSince your YFZ is a 2004 model, one of the issues the early models had was a miss placed upper chain roller. The chain roller needs to me moved up around an inch. The chain on the old YFZ's actually limit the travel, because of the roller being too low and binding the chain. You'll actually gain a slight amount of up travel, and save you from buying more rollers later if you buy a chain roller relocating bracket.
