ROCKY POINT, Mexico (KGUN9-TV) - Mexican news sources including El Imparcial and RockyPointWeekly.com are reporting the Police Chief of Rocky Point and his bodyguard were shot on Saturday, June 19th.
The Police Chief, Landagaray Erick Macias, and his bodyguard, Luis Huerto Ibarra were shot and wounded while traveling in an official vehicle Saturday night. They were in front of the Bimbo Warehouse when the shots were fired.
Landagaray was shot 6 times and taken to a hospital in Hermosillo. El Imparcial is reporting that the gunshots were from AK-47's.
An official press release from the City Administration of Puerto Penasco on June 20th said that the latest update on the Chief's condition is that he is in stable, but very critical condition. His bodyguard is expected to be ok. Check back with www.kgun9.com for updates.

Looks like all the drug wars going on down there are killing the economy. Americans don't want to go down there any more. It is too bad, that place used to be a blast.

Sorry Gari, but your friend is off base on that obervation. Yes there has been a economic down turn in RP, but the same could be said about any city in the USA as well. What is hurting the economy of RP is the bad press it gets. It's like the SB1070 thing, the ones who are knocking it are the same ones that never visit the place.

My pops have a few properties in the "sky rises" and rents are low, but they are still renting..

it could be just the economy. and you are pretty much right, I can't say for sure which one t is. But I do know I won't take my family down there any more due to all the reports of violence down there, I also have several friends that feel the same way I do. It isn't economy that keeps me in the U.S.
