I sold my 1100 Multistrada a while ago and regretted it. Been through MANY bikes and they just don't light my fire.

After 6 months of searching EVERY day I found her this morning!!!

On Wednesday I'm flying to Oregon and riding home this!!!!

I'm gonna ride the almost 1000 miles of Oregon and California coast line to make my way home with a true love!!!

Here it is......

2008 Ducati Multistrada 1100S

Full Staintune SS exhaust

FatDuc O2 manipulator (super smooth!)

Ducati Designs adjustable footpegs

Ducati Designs LED tail/brake light

HID low beam with DD mods

Kyle Racing progressive throttle tube (great low-speed control)

Sargent seat

MPL slave cylinder

Pazzo adjustable levers

Shift-tech CF hugger

Uprated rear Ohlins spring (great for 190-230 lb rider)

Roamer's dandy Zumo mount

ZUMO 550 with all accessories!!!!

FAR color-matched mirrors with signals

KTM Adventure (Renthal) bars

1000 mi on Michelin PP2CT tires

Heated grips with lighted low/high switch

ZG Sport Touring screen (dark smoke)

DP rear seat cowl

DP hand guards

DP Cordura tank bag

DP side bags installed

DP bag liners

DP centerstand

DP cargo net in the glove box

Powerlet accessory socket

Front fender extender

I'm sure there's more...

This bike is fast, smooth, makes beautiful noises. Tours well and carves even better. Really babied, never dumped. Recent full (at 8300 mi) service with new belts, valve check, etc. Synth oil every 2500 miles. Odometer under 9K miles.

I dont mean to sound dumb (comes naturally) but how does the riding experiance of this differ from say a ducati street fighter?

Sweet ride OB.

FWIW, a couple weeks ago I did the entire coast highway trip from San Diego to Oregon in a 36' moho. We use 101 and 1 everywhere possible. The road was in pretty good condition with the exception of a few areas that had signficant work.

I had an 07 1100 standard. This is the "S" model which came with Ohlins suspension front and rear and carbon fiber valve belt covers and front fender as well as better bars.

Plus mine was 100% stock just because Ducati parts cost sooooooo much money.

This bike is waaaaaaaaaaay more bike than mine was. Only the brand and model name was similar.

The guy I bought it from is a total Multistrada guru and owns a high end Ducati parts company and this bike is the most Sano Multi I've ever seen.

Ducati's are funny machines. Anybody can throw a bunch of parts on them but to make all those parts work in conjunction with the bike and work GOOD is a very rare quality.

He's the "Go To" guy over on Multistrada forums for all the super techy stuff. You can tell from his postings he is VERY intelligent, mature, professional and dont cut corners.

IMHO I got one of the nicest Multi's on the planet from about the best person you could buy it from.

I'm soooooooooo effin happy and excited!!

First thing I ever bought in my life that involved me getting on a plane to go get it. Never found anything else that was worth the trouble....

Is it pretty self explanatory how to get home taking as much coastal line road as possible?

I've never done a journey quite like this. dunno.gif

Any points of interest and things to see that you recommend?

Bring Rain Gear,Humboldt for the hemp and the Red Woods, anywhere on the 1 is all good. Big Sur is a visual treat. Ragged Point has a great Hotel. King City for some of the best clam chowder. Does he have xm running through his Zumo. If no,get it.Just plugs in. Also,J&M makes cables to allow your cell phone and radra detector to work through the zumo as well. Makes for a nice package on a long cruise.

This will be the longest ride I've done by far. I'm kinda concerned. The rides I usually do are 100 to 200 mile loops through the twisties.

Any other tips or advice??

for long trips i usually use a camelback. start looking for gas at 1/2 tank..On the 101 thats not a problem,on the 1 a little harder. Whenever you do stop have a little snack. If there is a picnic table, lie on it. Stretches out the back.If you are doing it in 2 days, the fog can be a problem in the am. I usually ride from 8 til 5 and find a hotel. A drink, dinner, some porn ,and sleep makes for a nice evening. Repeat every day till you're home. My .02 Its worked for me for the last 30 years.

Call your wife.gif whenever you come to a stop for the night to tell her where you are. OR NOT!

Any cool stuff to see on the 5 or is it just nothingness?

I would mix it up, straight down the 5 would be too boring. When you need to make up some time then jump on the 5. Look at the map and make a list of what you would like to see this trip and plan on doing it again sometime to make up for the rest.

Bring your Ipod too

OB thats a pretty skinny seat. Can you get a gel pad for the boys to overlay?

OB,

beautiful bike, truly a work of art, you got good taste man, expensive, but good. Looks like tons of fun, and make sure you start a thread called OB's Journey, and keep us updated, we are living thru you

No way. You have the opputunity of a lifetime to get to know your bike and ride an epic loop of California. If you were buying a skateboard I'd tell ya to ride it down Highway 1. Get the sand outta your va-j-j and hit the road. It's an adventure, enjoy it,don't fear it. We are riding up to Sturgis this year. At least the Coast Highway has an ocean to look at. beer.gif

Take some Advil, make rest stops. Plan on it taknig a few days. Don't ride tired.

Stay frosty. Look out for 'The Man.' On rides that long, 80-100 mph start to feel like nothing.

Take your time.

Don't be a Puss. My sister is riding her Road King to New York and back at the end of summer. Take the scenic route. You will regret it the rest of your life if you don't.

Give me a call when you hit Santa Cruz area. Got a place for you to crash and know a great spot for a massage. You will end up happy and ready to ride the next day.

Does anybody know anything about "carry on" and flying?

Can I take a backpack with my clothes and electronics in it, wear my riding jacket and hold my helmet in my hand to get on the plane?
ISBB
you should be fine OB... i dont see any reason why they wouldnt allow you to bring a helmet as carryon i see kids with skateboards and all kinds of dumb I eat poo at the terminals anymore.. icon_biggrin.gif Just roll with it you will be good. Worst case scenario they make you check it at the gate no biggie.

I envy you on a couple of levels.
1. You are super excited about his bike and the ride and experience you are going to have.
2. Its a Ducati- need I say more. I own more bikes than I list and I love to ride the twisties but have been missing that thrill of something new.
