Hey Dave.....my buddy Does a bunch of riding up north and he suggested this route.
Whats your thoughts??
QUOTE
OK Bryan,
This will get you home in 4 days and not be too harsh on your toosh!
Get a map when you get there to go over the route. I made sure not to take some of the more obscure routes until your in a group. This will keep things a bit civilized and easy to follow solo! You may want a camera if your cell doesn't have one!
Day One:
Oregon Rte 6 West out of Beaverton to the US101 (tillamook). Even if your not hungry or if its morning, stop for an ice cream at the factory!
US101 South to Coos Bay. Pick up the 42 East to Interstate 5 South to Grants Pass. Stay there the first night. A good size town and should be easy to find a room.
Day Two:
Take the US199 South out of Grants Pass. This will take you to Crescent City CA. It is one of the best roads I've ever been on. When it ends at the 101 you will be sad....for a minute. US101 South through the Redwood Nat'l Forest. This is freaking amazing! Biggest trees you'll ever see! Continue to Arcata. Pick up the CA299 towards Redding. This goes through the Trinity Nat'l Forest and will test your twisty skills. All new road too!
Stay in Redding.
Day Three:
Continue on the 299 towards Burney. Be careful. The road is bitchin' and Burney is a cool town. If you stay too long you won't come home. A few miles past Burney you'll pick up the 44/89 South. Take to Susanville and pick up the US395 South there. This will be a cruise section. You can test out that 6th gear for a bit. Once you get through the I eat poohole that is Reno, the 395 gets busy through Mammoth. Head to Bishop for the night. Hit up Raymond's Deli for incredible grub!
Day Four:
Get up early. You have about an hour of nice before you hit the heat. You want to miss as much of that as you can. Depending whether you are dog tired or just getting your stride you can head home on the I-15 @ Victorville, or if your man-gina isn't calling the shots, take the 18 up and over Big Bear for a last romp in the twisties before home!
Day five:
Best sleep you ever had!
Enjoy every minute of it!

for long trips i usually use a camelback. start looking for gas at 1/2 tank..On the 101 thats not a problem,on the 1 a little harder. Whenever you do stop have a little snack. If there is a picnic table, lie on it. Stretches out the back.If you are doing it in 2 days, the fog can be a problem in the am. I usually ride from 8 til 5 and find a hotel. A drink, dinner, some porn ,and sleep makes for a nice evening. Repeat every day till you're home. My .02 Its worked for me for the last 30 years.
Call your

whenever you come to a stop for the night to tell her where you are. OR NOT!
Some good advice here.
Question for ya Dave.....do you think for my first long trip I should just beeline down the 5fwy?
Any cool stuff to see on the 5 or is it just nothingness?
You could go down the 99, there is even more nothingness to see.

OB,I've done some of those roads he suggested. Crescent City and The Redwoods are awesome. However, the very first time I rode the coast Highway the rule of thumb was stay on the One except when it merged with the 101 and then get back on the 1 every chance you get. Won;t have to worry about traveling inland with the heat and it will easily get ya home in 4 tush appealing days.300+ miles a day when all you do is ride is a piece of cake. I bet ya get back in 3 and don't stop talking about it for 5. Mount that camera on your bike, having it on top your helmet, makes ya look like a dork! LOL.

4: See Big Sur
5: See hearst Castle
6: Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

8: Some good yummy Steak and Seafood dinners
9: Some semi cool lodging w/ views if possible and a nice pool-spa to swim-relax-rejuvenate

My wife and I would do 300 miles a day no problem on our Multistrada. The annual trip to Monterey was a one day trip, no freeways, all back roads, about 350 miles. The Sargent seat is a huge plus, the factory multi seats are awful. The one thing about a multi as you know, especially one that has a full system and a upgraded computer to match the exhaust is the fuel range. Anything more than a 100 miles or so a tank full is a bonus, so you get to make lots of stops to stretch your legs.

Since its a newer model you also have the wet clutch, which personally I think is wrong for a Ducati, but on the other hand you cant argue with how much better it is than the dry clutch, way easier to pull, especially with the slave cylinder upgrade, and much more progressive. Also bring some tools so you can take the DB killers out of the Staintunes, so it sounds like it should. Most air cooled Duc owners go down one tooth on the front sprocket, if the owner has not already, do it, you will love the third gear power wheelies coming out of the turns.

Yes, you will see all that and more between the 101 and the 1. See if you can get a room at Ragged Point. It's literally on the edge of the coast highway. Great restaurant. If you got some $$ and want pampering, there is a Hyatt in the Forest in Big Sur. Massage and a Happy($$$) ending? Also, just past Hearst CAstle there is a beach with Elephant Seals on it. Its well marked check it out. ALso follow the signs down to Morro Bay. Nice cheap hotels and great seafood.

Man......you guys are all so awesome with such great advice! I REALLY appreciate all the help from everybody!
Banannas and water sounds like a great idea. I know when I'm out moving machines on a long hard day that helps.
I'll probably have him pull the DB killers out before I even get there. Curious what it sounds like now BUT I know I'll like it better without. Plus....I like to be heard before seen anyways. Safer I think. I bet going down one tooth on the counter shaft turns that bike into an animal. How much top end cruise ability do you lose with the Multi?

O.K. guys with all this Ducati talk I just noticed a bulliton from Foremost Insurance (company I write all off road, bikes, boats mobiles and r.v.'s with) and for the best producing agent in July and August gets a new Dukati "Street Fighter"

Help!!!!. I could join Walt and Ocotillo Boy on a ride. Let me quote you other toys besides sand cars.
I do it all.
Thanks, Jeff

What's the deal with these Ducati's??? I have financed 4 of em in the last 3 weeks and 2 more coming in this week. The guys that buy em act like they are on cloud 9.
