A friend is picking up either a new Rhino or Teryx (still deciding which one the wife likes best) next weekend. Dude wants to do some basic mods to it but nothing crazy....no motor work, nitrous, turbo, etc...

I imagine aftermarket pipe and air filter would be first is there any "have to do's"

I leave this to the SXS experts since I don't own one....yet.

Thanks

get a teryx, long travel is a must. muzzy duals or dasa pipes, msd, air filter set-up, clutch kit.
Duneroller
Agreed on the long travel.

Other than that, nothing else I have done has been ground breaking. I would say maybe cage and harnesses over power goodies.

First thing is safety. At a minimum throw some real belts in it with a harness bar. A cage is even better but belts are a must.

From there it depends a bit on wich one he gets....

Performance Upgrades:

Rhino- Sheave, Duner Kit, Muzzy Dual Exhaust, CDI/FI Controller, Filter kit. This is a nice combo that gives good power and will be reliable and work well. With the muzzy you can install the whisper cores and keep it pretty quiet as well.

Teryx- Dalton Clutch, Filter Kit, MSD CDI, Muzzy Dual Exhaust. We do this combo all the time and it is a proven set-up that will perform with no problems. +60mph easy.

Long Travel: The most expensive mod, but the most dramatic upgrade as well. Tons more stable, twice the travel, and way more fun in the dunes and whoops.

There is only about a million ways to put one together, from budget fun to rediculous trick. If he has any questions feel free to throw him our number and have him ask for me and I will be more than happy to answer any questions he has.

800.277.2280 ask for Tim.

get the Teryx slap on a clutch cap and MSD and it's set. Pipes and Throttle body and long travel woul be next but bring the $$$$

if it is to be riden in G my recommendations are

0. Slappy Sticker

1. Cage & Harnesses

2. Smoothys & Paddles are A must

3. some kind of long travel (poor Mans Long Travel ) Wheel Spacers or a good Long Travel kit.

4. leave the motor bone stock till the machine is out of warranty. I did and polaris rebuilt my motor twice , for the infamous intake problem , with the early 08's

after the warranty is up go crazy build a 4 cylinder 1000cc turbo stroker motor....LoL yay.gif

For potential power with a stock motor? Gotta vote Teryx...seat belts and a aftermarket cage would be the first "to-do's"...and then slowly add exhaust, intake, fuel controller...and the list goes on and on...

X2
max powers
this is the order I would add things

1. paddles/and or smoothies, but definetly get some rear paddles
2. harnesses
3. roof/sun protection
4. cooler and rack.

now the wife can drive to olds and be happy while delivering your beer safely.

Judging from the fact that he already knows he wants to put mods on it, I am assuming he wants to go faster than 42mph. Definetely don't let him buy a Rhino. He'll hate it. Don't get me wrong, they go from A-B just fine, but really slow. I say Teryx all the way or a RZR, hell even a Prowler would be a better choice.

Belts
4 seat cage
shocks
beadlocks
stereo
exhaust, programmer, intake (all at once)
Robbie
or get a Rzr-s and don't do any mods. It'll still be better than either of his other choices.

If you get a Teryx get a cage. Picture is worth more than words.
DON~~~

Rzr-s.

First things to get are harnesses and a cage.

Second would be a long travel kit. It improves stability and makes the ride way better. No sense in making it faster if it is going to bounce you everywhere.

Third would be a set of paddle tires, if it is only going to be used in the sand. They make a huge difference

Fourth would be minor bolt on mods. CDI/FI controller, clutch work and filter.

stonehenge
Anything but the Rhino

Slappy sticker

Leave motor alone until warr is up (maybe cdi)

"true" 5 point or more points harnesses

cage

Enjoy it, ....then start going down the rabbit hole with $$$$$
